Are you sure you mean the 5600nu and not the 5900nu? It's a no brainer if you do actually mean the 5600nu, the 9700pro will eat it up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, then for a midnight snack.

So sorry I did actually mean a 5900 nu or a 9700 pro . The 5900 nu is made by MSI -- .MSI AGP Video card Geforce FX 5900 VGA+DVI+TV Model FX5900-TD128 Model#: FX5900-TD128
or MSI AGP Video Card GeForceFX 5900 VGA+DVI+TVout+Video In, Model FX5900-VTD128 Model#: FX5900-VTD128

And the 9700 pro is SAPPHIRE RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB DDR TV/DVI 8X AGP Black PCB . Each of these can be had for 200.00 + 10 for the secongd 5900. Again I am sorry about the mis-post I was trying to post b4 I left work and had someone talking to me while typing. I do tend to mix up all these numbers somewhat though. This card will be to relace my aging Geforce 2 GTS-64 meg.

I think the 9700P may still be the better buy, but it's a much closer race now. A 9700P is basically a 9800 with very slightly faster memory. So you can check out recent benchmarks of the 5900 and 9800 to compare the two. Firingsquad has a lot of those. Digit-Life, Hardware.fr, and NordicHardware should also have 9800 vs. 5900 benchmarks.

I'd choose the 9700P for its better AA quality and DX9 performance, but it's a close call, and one you'd do well to research. (You can start with Anandtech's own high-end shoot-out to check if one architecture is noticably better at a game you're interested in--in some games, currently one card may be faster or less troublesome than another.)

I might have an 5900 for sale, from buy.com I should get it on monday. It goes for $237.00 with a $60.00 rebate= 177.00
Card is xfx 5900 with 2.2 ns ddr. I had one ordered from gameve, got an email saying my address verification failed so I ordered one from buy.com.
Guess what, I now have 2 of the same card :| I would like to sell one of them. LMK if your interested.

At the same price I'd take the 9700 pro. But, you can probably find a 5900 for less than a 9700 pro, so then it depends more on your budget and the price difference between the two.

i used both so i can speak from personal experience

9700pro had better AA quality and was faster with AA on... but it had LOTS of compatibility issues with many games.. a lot of my games wouldn't work...

5900 is faster without AA, and slower with AA on.. and the AA isn't close to as good. and 5900 is completely faster in my opengl games

overall i chose the 5900 because i haven't had a single problem in a game yet.. and i have like 25 games installed on my computer.

I've built 9 rigs with the 5900nonu and 15 with 9700pros in the last 2 months and the 9700pro is byFAR the clear winner, even using older title games.

None of my customers have complained about playing games on their 9700pros.

I myself have run through the gamut of all the cards and have found that the 9800pro (xt), 9700pro, are by far the best cards to buy for compatablitily, IQ, driver stability, and speed.

i used a 9700 pro for a year (the day it came out), didnt have any trouble running games. i remember halo gave me problems but that was an OC issue and jedi academy gave me problems that was a refresh rate issue

You've got to kidding right? IQ for sure. But compatability, stability belong to the NV. Speed can go either way depending on the app.

I think Rogodin2 was trying to be helpful. Seems to me he was posting his experiences with both cards. I don't know if I'd go so far as claiming ATI's were the 'best' like he does but I think they're right up there with Nvidia's for stability now.

I was running a 9700 Pro for the last 8 months & never had any real game problems. I think either way you go is fine for stability now. It's not like a couple of years ago where there were major compatability problems with different manufacturers cards. (I just upgraded & went with a 9800XT. Almost went with a 5900NU to save some $$$ but in the end figgured 'what the heck )'

Ok ok, Rogo, I apologize for saying you weren't helpful. I know you only report on your experiences. But I still stick to my statement about stability and compatability when it comes to NV. I have a 5900 in my rig now. I installed my 9700 in my wifes rig because, #1, it was the only other vid card I had to give her, and #2, she doesnt play any games except for online puzzles and such. I knew she wouldn't have any video problems because she never plays games.

That's what i've been running for comparisions (have one system with two HDs one with dets the other cats) and once I had the games on there I'd cycle through cards as I recieved them.

Life has kicked my wife and I in the teeth so I had to curtail any benchmarking.
