I'm currently running a Radeon 9700 Pro and I'm very happy with the card. However, I have a spare 5900 Ultra lying around. I need money so I'm thinking of selling one of the cards. Which one would give me better performance? I run games like Far Cry and Unreal 2k4.

9700Pro if u use DX9, or gonna use it. For openGL 5900U and for DX8 it depends. Why don't you run both and choose whatever fits your needs better?

Yeah I'm probably going to do that this weekend. I'm leaning on keeping the 9700 Pro in my system and I've been looking for offers on the 5900 Ultra.

5900 Ultra will probably have higher resale value. Since you're happy with 9700 Pro you should keep it and sell the 5900U.

yeah, good point resale value.

The 9700 Pro is still a decent card. I would sell the 5900 Ultra just for the price.

I wouldn't the 5900 Ultra is a superior card in comparison to the 9700PRO. The 9700 PRO competes. right now, with the 5900SE XT and N/U. Its getting old. I would definately keep the 5900 Ultra. Also the 5900 Ultra has more features than the 9700 Pro.

Sell them both and get an x800XT
Keep the 9700 I suppose. More money from the 5900U = good

what?

nvidia still havent beaten this card......NV3x cant hold even the tiniest of candles to ATI's masterpiece im not an ATI fanboi but i know when something good is starring at me.....its jus like a BMW M5 they got it right first time and theyre still getting it right.

9700pro for the price....owns nvida 59xx/58xx at DX9 and AA and AF implementation

keep the 9700pro......my friend has one is his A64 rig and he hasnt found anything that really pushes the card.....far cray looks beautiful on his 17 TFT too!

If he doesn't think anything pushes his 9700 Pro then he doesn't play many games. There are pleanty of games right now that would be limited by his 9700 Pro, especially with an A64.

Your 9700P should be pretty competitive with a 5900U in FC and UT2K4, so I'd sell the 5900U--even though it'll probably be faster, though not necessarily prettier--simply b/c it'll net you more money.

The 5900Ultra and above will beat a 9700PRO. HANDS DOWN. The 590x series competitor is the 9800Pro. The 5950 Series competes with the 9800XT. The 5900 Ultra will perform better than the 9700Pro. The Nvidia card is also a somewhat newer generation so it supports newer features too. I would keep the Nvidia card. (Also it OC much much farther). Im not an Nvidia fan boy but the 5900 ULTRA is a clear win over the 9700PRO. (not the 9800Pro.

The 5900 series does suffer at PS2.0 and AA/AF. Stick with the 9700 pro. At this moment ATI has Nvidia beat in just about every pricing category except sub $100.

It would be a hard decision for me. The 9700 Pro has superior quality AA, but inferior quality AF, but better performance in both AA and AF. The 5900U will be faster without AA or AF... and the 5900U is worth more right now if you were to sell it. The 9700 Pro is better at PS 2.0, but still isn't good enough to run the next generation of games at what I would consider acceptable rates.

I guess if it were me, I'd sell both of them and spend a few more bucks and buy an x800 Pro. You'll see roughly double the performance in new games.

That new forceware driver, 61.11, boosted FPS on farcray () from avg of 40fps to around 48fps, and if textures are set to medium, fps goes up to 55fps.. (1024x768)

Cat 4.5 actually lowered my farcry fps a lil, it spikes occasionally on my 9800pro system.

9700Pro competes pretty well with 5900U with AA/AF on and in DX9 bests it by a high margin. About features they are very similar, 9700PRO has some 5900U doesn't and vicerversa.

What you're saying doesn't make sense since 5950U can't outperform (in general) a 9800pro, and since Volari Duo was supposed to compete with 9800pro and can't even beet a 9600pro....

Also he can sell 5900U for a higher price.

This is true in theory, but not in reality. ATI beats Nvidia in every comparison, even so much that the 9700pro is VERY competitive with the 5900, and I have seen many benchies of the 9700 beating the 5900 in games like UT2K3/4

Agree, sell both!
I'm sure the video card price will drop very soon since both Nvidia and ATI pop up their new cards. period
