Guys you say that the 9700Pro is better. Here is a bench of the NV35 right when it came out. Yeah it definately stomps the 9700 and 9800Pros. Of course these games aren't a good representation at all of the R3xx core but it shows clear leads for the NV35.

Here is the link:Anandtech Article: Release of NV35

I know I mentioned this in another post, but being that I own both 9800pro and 5900Ultra (now a 5950 soft modded via BIOS), there is no way the 9800pro beats my 5950 in anything, regardless of what is turned or what resolution played. Don't believe the hype, the 9800 is fast but isn't faster than my 5950U.

But I agree with the others, wait and buy one of the new generation cards.

Even the 9700 pro compares favorably with the 5950 in UT2k4 and Farcry, the 2 most stressful games on the market, and possibly the most popular.

I never played either title, so I can't give an opinion on those. I will say the FS2004 has got to be one of the most stressful simulations out, and my 5950 does better than my 9800pro in that sim. As well as BF1942, BFV (some games I do play).

Assuming Cainam's numbers are correct, is the 5900U really 50-75% faster than a 9700P in UT2K4 and FC? Thus my recommendation to get the most profit by selling the 5900U, and keep the still-decent 9700P.

I'm not touching that AT review, as it caused enough trouble when it was released. But the 9700P would seem to perform fairly well compared to a 5900U judging from these benches (these, too). I agree that a 5900U should be faster in general, particularly without AA/AF, but for those two games the OP mentioned a 9700P should be very close, and selling the 5900U will net him mo' money (which I'd imagine he could use more than an extra few fps).

Edit: ChkSix, I'm surprised your 5950U is as fast as your 9800P in BF:1942 (though I think nV is faster in BF:V). Maybe NH's benchmark map happens to favor ATi immensely. Your 5950U should be faster in FS'04, as I'd imagine FS'04 prefers the 5950U's superior multitexture fillrate and memory bandwidth.

The nVidia card will be better for Quake III based games but overall the ATi card will usually be faster in everything else. Also it'll have better AA and AF quality.

My blanket recommendation would be to keep the 9700 Pro although the best advice would be for you to try both cards in your games and choose which one you like better.

Since I basically owned both of those cards (5900 and 9800 pro), I would definately say keep the 9700. Although I actually preferred gaming with the 5900 ( The drivers were much better, and the card just seemed sooooo smooth when playing any game), the 5900 would have a much better resale value. You are trading a little performance (if you dont use aa/af) but you will make it up with the money you sell it for. Good luck!

Blah blah blah. I agree with the poster above me. 140 dollar resale vs 220 resale. Nuff said. The performance edge is slighly in the 5900U's favor..10-20%ish I believe. Me? I'd keep the 9700 Pro and get two full nude lap dances. You're the one that can place a value on on those 80 bucks...whehter or not it's worth it to you. Anyone who's giving advice without factoring in the price of your cards...I really don't need to elaborate...

He's "very happy" with the 9700P, so I don't think he'd shed tears if he were to part with the 5900U.

LOL. I ended up keeping the 9700 Pro. I sold the 5900 Ultra and I'm gonna save the money and I'm thinking about selling my 9700 pro in the future since the X800 XT sounds mighty fine!

Huh?

Take a look at some benches with 4AA/8AF ?or 8AF? THG...... 9800pro is far faster with 8AF. And the 4AA of the 9800pro is much better than the 4AA of the 5950 in those benches too.

The reason NV adopted an adaptive AF on the 6800 very similar to the 9800?s, is because it both works very well while having little performance hit at the same time.

it would prob be easier to find a good price on the 9700, but i personally think both are good cards if you can find them under 150

I'm an ATI fan, but the 5900 is probably a faster card.

It would be a tough call.. the 9700 Pro is a good videocard... not bleeding edge, but is more than adequate.

you should really benchmark and compare... the 5900 will be faster in most cases I would think...
