Picked up the 9700pro a few days ago at a local Best Buy store. Both cards have "Clearance" tags and are sealed and unopened. I guess they are just making shelf space for the 9600 and 9800 cards which are both avail in pro and nonpro forms.

Anyway I can't say for sure that this is a nationwide price, but it is at the local BB (I'm in Texas), but it's worth a look!

Sort of a repost...

Really YMMV, my store did not have anything except 1 last open-box 9500 pro for $129. And I had to drive 52 mi for it, as all stores in the immediate area were out (Las Cruces, NM). It's good enough for me--using it right now and it works great. Good deal if you can find one.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, but 52 miles would put you in El Paso. hehe, i'm from el paso

DAMN, this is definitely a YMMV. I got my Radeon 9700 Pro from a Best Buy in Burbank (had to drive 30 miles to get there!) cuz all the other stores around me were either Sold Out or the stupid workers were like "They don't make those anymore, hence they don't exist!" (I ACTUALLY had some guy say they didn't put them on clearance and that once the companies moved onto a new item, you couldn't get the old ones ANYWHERE) Anyways, bought mine for $244.99 from BB- I told the BB guy that CC was selling for $250 and that I was just picking up a BB printed store price since CC wouldn't take anything else, and the BB guy said F***! CC I'll sell it to you for their PM price! Anyways, I don't know how you got the $229- must've been superclearance sale x100. Definitely a great card though and worth every penny!

Another vote here for putting YMMV in the title. These cards have been on closeout at BB for weeks. I have checked several stores and completely failed to locate one in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

Feel lucky if you find one!

Yeah, they had 2 of each when I got mine. But they had been pulled from their old position on the top shelf of the vidcard aisle, and were on a shelf with a bunch of misc discontinued items. This is at the store in Midland TX and even though this area is WAAYYY behind the cutting edge of technology, I am sure that they are sold out now.

No shite, not like we would want a nice card like that to sell in the 200 range. We would rather not buy it at all and buy the $400 and $500 cards.

Suggestion if your Best Buy is out of the 9500 Pro or the 9700 Pro, get them to print out a sheet with the model number on it and their price (it was changed on 7/17/03 by what I saw yesterday).

Take that sheet with you to a store like Circuit City who still has that card, get them to price-match with a 10% difference discount, and you can be home that night with a great card at an even greater price!

In addition, I see that Circuit City still has a $20 REBATE on the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro right now...

So, you start out with a $220 Circuit City current price - match that down to a $140 Best Buy clearance price - then figure the 10% price match difference discount ($80 Difference times 10%) which is another $8 discount - less $20 rebate - add in taxes (locally here) of say $10 - final price of $122 for the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro!

Not too shabby at all, as long as you have a Best Buy locally who will print out the price/inventory sheet for you (HINT: Have them use "ATI Technology" in their search, as "ATI" or "RADEON" will NOT show any items), and then take that sheet to a Circuit City, CompUSA, or the like.

It worked for me...

4x4expy, thank you for the information!!!

They need to be in stock at your local Best Buy right? I don't think they have any at my local BB so I was just hoping I can take a price tag with the price showing the markdown prices and still get the pricematch without Circuit City calling to check inventory.

Maybe I was lucky but lately Circuit City has not been calling ANY store to verify inventory.

Only Best Buy seems to be doing that locally. I do not know if that is a national trend or whatever. I was prepared to argue (even though the sheet I carried with me specifically stated NO INVENTORY at BB) based upon the written Corporate Statements on the CC wall behind the CS Desk. Heck, even the sales manager saw the sheet and never questioned what I was doing. It is an item they both sell and they both had two different prices. That was it.

What do you have to lose by trying?

Good luck.

Circuit City doesn't seem to call to check stock or sometimes even verify prices. Many a time I just verbally confronted the managers that CUSA, BB or Fry's has a certain item for however much, and they just went ahead and did it in the computers. Most of the time they don't even ask for printed proof (I would always have something in my hands just in case it doesn't go through).

so,

I purchased a 9700pro at $250 about 27 days ago and have a few days left on the 30 day return policy. Should I go to BBuy w/my card and receipt and request the lower price? Could I ask them to return then resell me the card?

has anyone done this before?
