975X Chipset and 4x1GB?

I will be building a rig soon, my first in the last couple years. Going Intel this time around.

Current setup thoughts:
Intel BadAxe2
E6600 or Xeon 3060 or E6420
TJ09

Anyhow, I remember back in my AMD days, using 4 sticks of memory would cause you to take a hit in CAS and overall performance. Is that the case on the Intel boards?

It is goign to be another month before I pull the trigger, so hopefully prices drop a bit more.

So, will using 4x1GB cause me to take a performance hit in timings or speed or both? Thanks!

I don't think it will cause a slowdown, but I don't entirely know on that. What I do know for sure is that your overclock will be lower since you can only go as high as the slowest of the four sticks.

The negligible performance hit was not AMD's fault, it was the laws of physics at work. Unbuffered DDR is specified for one DIMM per channel at DDR400, two at 333, and so on. Later memory controllers were tweaked to allow two DIMMs per channel at DDR400 - but this is overclocker's territory and out of JEDEC spec.

I have no idea what the restrictions on DDR2 are like.
