9800 AIW $303 9800 Pro $239 No Rebates Retail

Im debating myself.... Years back I had the 8500 AIW and loved it. Now I have the 9700pro and a Wintek TV card. (the Wintek just being so so ) I would love to get the 9800 AIW but.... I have read about video card manufactuers salivating over the new PCI-Express slot that is becoming standard. ATI even talked about it in Sept. http://www.ati.com/companyinfo/press/2003/4684.html

I know as soon as I purchase this card a new one will arrive around the March time frame.

I should have known better than to trust what their website said. I got in at the beginning on this deal when their site said...."avail. 1 to 3 days" a few days ago. I was issued an order number and waited until today to call because no tracking number was issued. I called and they said sorry, it's backordered, you'll have to wait 7 to 21 days. I cancelled. Sometimes I forget that mom and pop stores are almost always not a good way to go if an order needs to be expedited.....Oh well, went with my old favorite newegg for $268 shipped......$19 more.....

Got the last 9800 Pro at my local Best Buy in Costa Mesa Ca. using price match to Microcenter plus I had a gift card for $25. Microcenter was out at my local B&M as well as all CicuitCitys' in my area so this was sweet! Thanks BBQ and thanks Anantech Hot Deals! Happy New Year!

I got a PM at BB. I haven't open it yet, but does anyone know if this includes HL2? And will this card show alot of performance improvement on Call of Duty, as well as Lock on Modern Air Combat?

Ok I should put this on the brag and moan section but its still got relevance here so....

I went to my local Microcenter (Orange County) and they were naturally out of the 9800 Pro however, they told me the sale goes until the end of January so maybe if you backorder in-store you'll get lucky.

The next part blew my mind. One of the associates was unloading a new batch of 9800Pro XT's (Which are on sale for $399.99!!!) and all 10 of the boxes were sliced open on the top side by his cutting knife when he was unloading the pallettes. He threw in an additional $75 discount!
I wound up paying only $325 for a top of the line card. Not a bad day's work I must say.

Well, I'm off to go run some benchies and game away for awhile.

Who says no price match when its oos? I got mine from BestBuy and they called my local microcenter B&M to verify price. I knew Micrcenter had none instock but BB still matched it. Its worth a try.

Confirmed at the B&M in Houston, TX. Sweet Deal thanks guys, I've got a snazzy new 9800 Pro AIW. They had a few more left at 2:30 pm. The sales guy seemed to think they'll go fast (as in he didn't know they were on sale and him and his buddies were about to purchase some new video cards)

LOL. Microcenter is hardly a "Mom and Pop" store...the B&M in Richardson is about the size of a Walmart.

What is Best Buy's price-protection policy? I don't mean price match. I bought a 9800Pro about two weeks ago for $299, and would rather keep my card and get a price adjustment based on Microcenter's price. Do they match local stores?

If I'm not mistaken, if there is no HL2 sticker on the box, you won't get it. I don't believe that the 9800 Pro's aren't included, only the XT line (according to ATI's page:

As far as improvement, that's dependant on what you currently have...I had a 9800 pro (purchased from BB for $269) and returned it, as I liked my Nvidia Quadro4 2D appearance MUCH better, and could see almost no improvement on my 3D...at least not near enough to warrant a $269 upgrade. If it was free after MIR, I might have kept it for my bittorrent machine...

Best Buy has clearly marked on the shelf tag next to the 9800 pro an explanation of the HL2 promotion that specifically states that the 9800 pro will get HL2. The problem is that none of the clueless robots at Best Buy knows how you are going to do that.....

On a similar note I successfully pricematched at CC but I want to get HL2 as well if possible.....

A couple questions:

1. Exactly what materials are you taking into to BB and CC with you in order to pull off the price match. Just a print-out of the webpage with the price on it? Are you taking a print of Microcenter's location and phone number so that they can call and confirm the price?

2. Do all of you that are PMing at BB and CC have a Microcenter B&M locally? I live in Portland, Oregon and the closest Microcenter to me is in Santa Clara, California. Do you think that I can pull this off when I live 650 miles away from the nearest Microcenter?!
