No overclocking results? It runs cooler than the 8800GTS so it should OC well. That's really going to be the only way these will sell. Why spend an extra $100 when you can get >90% of the performance at 2/3 of the price?

ADD: Also, so much for the need for 1000W power supplies!

Seems odd that PCGH did their reviews at only 1680x1050.

Still, thanks for posting them.

Not much of a card at all. But it will sell like hot dogs because it has the "GTX" thing at the end of the name.

I disagree. It's the fastest single gpu card now, ahead of the gts which its based on by a significant margin in all reviews, and at an attractive price.

There's disadvantages, but all things considered, I think it's a decent card

It looks like it's slower than my 8800 Ultra, though admittedly that's been discontinued.

Exactly, Nvidia didn't actually managed to make a faster card then the 8800 GTX, the oldie released in 2006!!!!! At least it's a priced right in some way. But it's pretty clear that it should have been named 8900 GTX.
When you hear 9800 GTX you think at a card that it should be twice as fast as the 8800 GTX.

I agree about the naming convention being completely ridiculous.
Still, I care way more about price for performance than about the name of the card.

Actually I still find the 8800 GTS price/performance ration better then that of the 9800 GTX.

From Tom's Hardware:

Surprise!? The effective cooling of the GeForce 9800 GTX' G92 GPU comes at the price of a high noise level. While the fan used is the same one as on the 8800 GTS 512 MB, its rotation speed is much higher - at idle as well as under load. Only the HD 3870 X2 took the booby prize for being noisier under load. But it was even quieter at idle - roughly equivalent to the 8800 GTS - which the 9800 GTX should have matched. In practice, its noise wasn't all that bad at idle, but the fan accelerates very fast as soon as you launch a game, and sometimes even when idling, and the noise level becomes frankly obnoxious.

And what's really funny is that Nvidia actually makes a point of saying that this card is extremely quiet, even during gameplay. The marketing department usually simply keeps its mouth shut about a product's negative points, instead of calling attention to them - especially when the fault is this flagrant.
I love it how they blast vendors over noise issues. I like these guys.

Yeah, that's reasonable.

Sigh, a year and a half along and it looks like we've officially gone nowhere. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

And someone needs to be fired for this whole 9-series naming scheme.

Edit: And I really hope one of these sites will do some benchmarking with the same drivers. It's pretty clear that the 174 drivers have some rather big optimizations for a few games

Wow Just checked prices for 8800 GTS - was waiting for prices to go down. They went up from 6:00am est this morning. The MSI 8800GTS (G92) was $209 AR this morning and it is now $239. The eVGA 8800GTS was $229 and is now $279. Should have bought yesterday knowing that the 9800GTX was a marketing release only.

PS Holy Crap - even the 8800GT jumped heavily. The MSI was $179 AR and is now $209 and a Palit which was $189 is now $239. Wow.

That's pretty weak that they jumped that much in price, but if it's newegg you're talking about, those cards were on a 'month end sale' so it's more because of that than the new release.

What a disappointment. This thing is actually slower than the old ultra, and only marginally faster than the gts-512.

How long is this card? I only read the FiringSquad review and they didn't mention the length of the card. Can't tell by the pic because they didn't take a picture of 8800/9800 GTX side by side.
