I looked a little more and it is up there. Click on sapphire and go to page 3. I don't know if that's where it used to be though.

On second thought... I think Newegg is just a little quick to "clean up" that page with all the models listed. They took the 9500 Pro off a couple months ago too, and now it's back on there for some reason. No matter... I just ordered a GeForce FX5900 for $235... so... if ATI was behind the card be taken off a lot of major online resellers websites, they just lost a sale because of it

Just do a search on "radeon 9800" and you will see them all.

The one we are talking about here is "ATI OEM SAPPHIRE RADEON 9800 128MB Non Pro DVI/TV 8X AGP BULK" and it is listed for $249 but is out of stock.

As of 3:00pm Central time it IS listed. It may come and go, but I do see it listed and it is out of stock.

EDIT/ But I do suspect that something is up because, just as has been mentioned, I cannot find the 9800np at any other site.

Maybe ATI saw their 9800 Pro sales declining when people figured out that they could buy a 9800 and just flash it with the 9800 Pro's BIOS and viola, they have a 9800 Pro for $250. So maybe they're recalling all the 9800's stores have in stock to flash them with the 9800 Pro BIOS themselves, then sell them as 9800 Pro's and let their 9800SE take over as the "value" card for the 9800 series.

I beleive you are correct. They all seem to have vanished at the same time. Too much of a cooincidence.

It looks like Sapphire discontinued them. All stores that are sold out probably took them off their site. I emailed newegg and this is what I got.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Jeff,
Thank you for contacting NewEgg.com.

Item # 14-102-292 has been discontinued.
Item # 14-102-303 is presently in stock though.

Thanks for writing and have a pleasant day.
--------------------------------------------------------------
14-102-292 is the 9800 NP
14-102-303 is the SE model, ha. No thanks!

Whew... I guess that impulse buy I made from newegg last week wasn't such a bad thing after all!

Boy, you sure showed them
. Now ATI must be responsible for their resellers?

How about here or better yet, check pricewatch .

*ding-ding-ding!* Teh Winnar!!!! My thoughts exactly. I picked up a 9800NP exactly two days before it "disappeared." *crossing fingers hoping for a Samsung-equipped card*

Well this really sucks. Some retail stores appear to have ATI 9800NP boxes, but as mentioned newegg doesn't have them anymore. The retail price at Best Buy isn't discounted, so I'll have to see if any of the Circuit City stores locally have the $50 off someone mentioned.

I just checked bananapc and they have the 9800SE but they aren't listing the 9800NP. I tried searching for 9800 as well as Sapphire and browsing. If you have a bananapc link for the 9800NP, then please share.

Thanks,

ka

yeah and maybe just maybe ATI hired the project manager for the GeforceFX and made him create a crappy card.

anyway have fun playing half-life 2 in directx 8 mode without all of the cool graphics features.

That zipzoomfly link is to a 9800 SE. So are about all of the ones on Pricewatch. Shady06 listed a few links the other day, the only place that had some left was DemonsGear. Also, some say Circuit City had ATI's for $250, although I think they had Infineon memory and the sale for $250 may be over.

Damn bastard ATI. I can't afford one right now, but my desire to blow an extra $150 to get the same performance is minimal. Gahhh, so torn!

Anyone who buys any video card right now for the next generation of games is a complete and total MORON. I bought the FX5900 for CURRENT games... so... go ahead and spend $350 on a card that plays HL2 "just ok" right now ... and in 6 months I'll buy one for $250 that plays it twice as good.

Thats true, if you buy a card for a game that is not out yet than shame on you. however if you ignore the facts and buy a card that can't even compete with many of the games being released right now! than you would be a moron also. basicly I feel your pain I did't get one of those 9500's that worked as a 9700 and felt bad however that does not mean that I decided to go out and waste my money on a fx5800 (which is not a horrible but not worth the money at the time ($500).

good luck with your new card.. hopefully you will not regret the decision.

True... I may get a little bit more FPS with a 9800 Pro... or even a 9800 non-pro for that matter... but, nVidia drivers just work... with everything... I've never had a driver problem with my nVidia cards in... 3 years. So I'll take 5% less FPS to be able to play any game I want to without having to download different drivers, and beta drivers and patches for beta drivers, etc.

you mean 50% less speed. and welcome to this year, ATI drivers "just work" too. I am sorry but right now there is nothing nvidia is better at, I am sure that will change but ATI has been leading since the release of the 9700pro over a year ago. there is only a couple of weeks left before you half life 2 and you can probably still send you 5900 back if you are not happy with it. or you might be perfectly happy with it wich of course would also be fine either way it comes down to what ever is best for you is best for you.

They obviously dont work with half life 2, so you ARE going to have to download a bunch of driver releases that hack them to play HL2

the ATI driver problems havent been a problem for like 2 years now
