I recently bought a 9800 pro from a member on the boards, had the computer on during the weekend while I was out for christmas, when I came back the computer was locked up with a blank screen. I restarted the computer and nothing, the mouse and keyboard never even lit up, the screen found a signal and clicked on but no picture ever came up and eventually the monitor went back to sleep.

Anyone else ever have this happen, is the card junk now? Is there something to look for on the card? The heatsink stillworks on the card, it is a VGA silencer and the card was not overclocked.

I assume it is dead, but hopefully someone can suggest something else. Oh the reason I knew it was the video card is the lights that the computer flashed during boot up.

Your motherboard seems to be dead too. Take out the card and smell it, if its okay, ur mobo is gone.

Only way to know is if you have a pci card and see if it works with the pci video card

Thats why I  my POST card reader. Tells me where the PC is FUBAR'ing when it doesn't boot right. Every self respecting computer enthuisast should have one, or a board that has one.

Yeah, try another AGP or PCI card and see if it works.

I am running my old graphics card, Geforce2 Ultra and it is running fine. However, since I just dropped some cash on the 9800 pro I would like it to last more than a month and a half! I can't smell anything burnt on the graphics card nor see where anything blew, but then again everything on these cards are so tiny I doubt I would be able to see it anyway.

I think this is a good time for a rma to sapphire. If you dont know what vendor made the card, it's probably shpphire seeing as they make 80% of ati cards or something.

I'm not sure if warranties are transferrable and weather if you oced your card at something carzy like 500/900 and left it on but either of those listed above would probably the warranty(ocing is a definite no no).

Yeah I have never Oced the card, but how would you RMA a used video card? And the sticker with the S/N on it is missing. The card is red though and has DVI, S-Video, and monitor outputs.

That's what happens when you buy second hand. The previous user could've overclock like a mad man, and then sell it to you.
