9800 pro running slow compared to AT Benches

I'm comparing my UT2003 benchmark results with the ones in AT reviews but I am getting nowhere near the performance that the review is stating. Can someone point me in the right direction to obtain the settings that Anandtech uses when benchmarking for UT2003? Ex. Are they running the default batches that come with the game? Are they running with no sound? etc...

Thanks

look at the system he is running it on

c/p from the test portion of the review

CPU Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz (Hyper-Threading Enabled)
Motherboard Intel D850EMV2
Intel 850E Chipset
RAM 2 x 256MB PC1066 Kingston RIMMs
Sound None
Hard Drive 120GB Western Digital Special Edition 8MB Cache HDD
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) - 7.84 Beta Drivers

there is more to gaming performance than just video cards. that is why i need to get rid of my 1700 instead of my 4200.

Yeah I understand that. I am running a tbred 2400+. I expect his to be faster, but I'm beginning to think I have a config problem.

For example, at 1024x768, 4xAA, 8xAF, I'm averaging about 40fps as opposed to Anandtech's 160fps. My min frame rate gets as low as 13fps. Granted, I do have all the eye candy turned on, but I assumed he did too. I'll try running with sound turned off (which I don't really see the point of for my purposes) and see if that helps. I figure I should be getting somewhere near 100fps with my config.

Your numbers are very low, so low that it might be a config problem. What's your score without AA/AF?

How did you install the 9800P: with a new OS install, or over a previous ATi/nV card?

New WinXP pro install. Catalyst 3.4. Latest Hyperion drivers. DX9.

'AA/AF disabled' scores are not tremendously better. I have Vsync turned off.

I'll tinker with it tonight and see if I can figure out what the problem is. I'll let you guys know if I find anything conclusive.

Uh...enable dma?

Geesh...you know, that accounts for about 25% of all my posts I think. Guess I'll stop recommending it.

Yeah, for the HD and cdrom.

check AGP speed settings and the actual cards core and memory speed.

SmartGART is in the ATi Control panel, but only if you d/led the ATi control panel along with the 3.4 drivers

I completely removed and reloaded catalyst 3.4 driver and control panel, reinstalled. Still the same. Tried Fast Writes on/off. AGP speed 4x. Still averaging around 50fps on the default Antalus botmatch benchmark script. Going to Ghost it and start from scratch this weekend with a bare load of XP, drivers, and UT2003 only. I'll let everyone know what happens.

I'll share my experience with the 3.4 drivers and UT2003. This past weekend I did a fresk install of XP home and loaded the 3.4 drivers from scratch. Upon running UT2003 on the latest patch, the game would load and I could get to the main welcome screen, but when I tried to play an actual map, my PC would lock up. Even tried loading the game in safe mode, and same thing happend. So I uninstalled the drivers/control panel via the Add/Remove programs, and installed 3.2 drivers/control panel. UT2003 can now be played, but at first, it did seem like the fps did drop (especiall when playing online). Frustration kicked in so I shut her down for the night. Powered the pc back up yesterday, played UT2003, and the fps seemed to be back where they used to be. Still planning to find some stats to compare to, but strange none the less. For now, I will stick with 3.2. BTW, I am running that Dell 9700-TX card so that might be why the 3.4 drivers gave me troubles. Let us know how it goes.

here are my troubles, a7n8x deluxe,wd se 80G hd, enermax 430W psu. win xp tweaked out and
sisoft sandra file sys.benchmark reading 45,000+. i install a sapphire 9800pro and my benchmarks
fall to 24,000+, that is about 30% below sisoft's normal. i found that winxp or ati drv. had changed
the settings in "control panel/system/advanced/performance(setting)/advanced" under "processor
scheduling" from "program" to "background services" and under "memory usage" from 'System cache" to
"programs". everything worked alright except the system was really slow. 3dmark 2003 test went
from 5690 to 2550 score. changed processor sch. back to programs and memory usage back to
system cache. file sys bench went to 42,000 and 3dmark 2003 went to 3640. troubles!!! when opening
some apps. i get errors, "application failed to initialize properly" and IE could not get on the internet, it
would start to load a URL but then drop out with an error screen. removed 9800pro drv. and running system
with no video drv. installed.
