Should be a little faster without AA, a little slower with. The extra RAM will be nice on newer titles. But it's more of a sidegrade than an upgrade if you're moving from a 9800, especialyl if you can't sell the 9800P for ballpark $100.
The x800 gto is the same price, much faster, AND can be easily modded to enable the extra 4 pipes so it's basically an x800xl (as long as you get the saphire one).
It will be a bit more expensive than x800 pro/9800pro, so if you don't want to spend that much, look for a cheap 9800 pro on ebay or fs forum.

I have a 9600XT and I am thinking the BB deal on the x700 Pro is too good to pass up. My CPU is 2.4 w/ 1 gig of RAM (Asus P4PE)
Any thoughts?
Either card should be a big improvement over your 9600XT. That $100AR (plus tax) X700P should be a lot faster, and that $100AR (no tax!) 6600GT will be slightly faster still. I'd go for the 6600GT--faster overall and especially in Doom 3 games, dual DVI, lower initial and probably final price--but I don't know about your driver issues.

I agree either will be a major improvement for very little $$ (until I have time to rebuild maybe next year). I may just move from my 2.4 to a faster P4. Any thoughts on this?
As for the drivers, I pnce had a problem moving from ATI to the Nvidia drivers that prevented an Nvidia card from running properly. I ended up having to return it. I am sure it was "user error" but I have few, if any, major issues with the ATI drivers
Switching from ATI to Nvidia shouldn't be a problem as long as you remove the old ATI drivers fully ... ATI now includes a very effective uninstall utility in their driver, or you can use a 3rd party cleaning tool.. run it to remove the ATI driver & when prompted to restart, say no & shut the computer down instead & swap the cards. (download the newest Nvidia driver first & save to desktop)
If you really want to stick with ATI, the X800GTO is a no-brainer.. almost all of these cards will unlock to 16 pipes & run at X850XT speeds which will be quite a bit faster then a 6600GT for around $205.
