9800pro 128mb or 6600 256mb

I don't do alot of gaming on my pc, but with my purchase of Civ IV my old geforce 256 can't keep up. Being as the Radeon 9800pro and geforce 6600 seem to be comparable in price, which of these would be the better pickup.

I also hear the 9800 is rather loud if you don't replace the stock fan. Is this an issue with the 6600?

9800 Pro had a quiet fan, or at least mine did.

I'd suggest neither of those cards honestly.

What's your budget?

My initial vote would be 6600GT, but a budget would help...

IMO, 90% of stock heatsink fans are too loud.

As n7 asked, what's your budget? Some cards go for cheaper in different places, and you might be able to swing a 6600GT for around $120 - Newegg has the eVGA for $130.

Keeping it around $100. I have found used 9800 pros and the 6600 here for under that. Like i said I don't play alot of new games on the pc, and since agp is almost dead anyway, I don't want to sink a big chunk of money into a video card when I'll have to scrap the motherboard for pci-e in a couple years.

It's a refurb, so very doubtful you'd be able to unlock pipes on it, but should be better than both the cards you listed at stock.

Meh, well, i'd go with the 9800 Pro if it's between those two.

If it is between the 9800PRO and the plain 6600, I would go for the 9800PRO. I believe its stock performance is better than the 6600.

9800pro will be light years quicker than your GeForce256. But then again, that 6800LE looks real nice for that price. I try to steer clear of refurbs myself, but that is dirt cheap IMHO.
