Luke warm at best. Fry's sells the ATI branded retail cards for between $179 - $199 depending on the weekly sale. I got mine for $125 AR at BB.

Heres the response I got from them which wasn't of much use, they are showing the atlantis and the ultimate in their links...why? I am thinking this is another bait-and-switch and theyre just trying to get the unsuspecting customer with the lower quality 128-bit version.


Can anyone make sense of this I can't tell what theyre trying to tell me what to expect:

She's probably misinformed, since all those links refer to a 256bit card--I'll bet you they're selling the 128bit neutered Sapphire version. Buyer beware.

radeon 9800 pro are 256bit standard, normaly non-standard versions with the same name are faster - but this is a junk slower one with the same name

anymore when buying a video card you have to be very careful checking the mhz of the ram, gpu, the speed of the ram in ms, and apparently now the bus width

I dont' see why ATI is letting this crap go on, its hurting their name when consumers are losing confidence in a product.

Yeah but it's probably because manufacturers (or ATI too maybe?) need to get rid of the 9800 pro cores and boards for the new ones.

Actually the confusing scheme started much earlier when the different variant of 8500 and 9100 come out. The 8500, se with different bus width, clock speed and what not were as confusing. So, it is not like the first time Ati allowed these. Saphire is Ati's biggest OEM partner account for most manufacturing of Ati's brand and other OEM card. As a result, they enjoy some flexibility in chip_memory configuration. I think theway they call it the same name are definitely wrong.

FWIW, I bought a BFG 5900 at a great price from buyxg.com, and it was DOA. Saw a couple of discussions about that deal here with lots of folks reporting problem cards, and I got the impression they were possibly dumping a bunch of RMA'd/flashed cards. I called buyxg for an RMA and did not feel at all comfortable with the way they talked to me. I ended up talking to BFG a couple of times and exchanging thru them instead. (BFG has another fan here now!) I'd be very careful of this Yahoo vendor.

I guess it all depends on your personal experience. I have ordered from this company many times, and always received what I ordered. Only one time did something arrive in unacceptable condition, and it was the front plate of a case I ordered and it was broken to pieces. I called them up and they sent me out a new cover next-day delivery and never even asked for the other one in return.

yes, very reliable company. just look at the resellers ratings, its quite good
