Best Buy has x850xt agp for 350 after 50 MIR, seems like a good time to upgrade, but I'm thinking to myself if I really need the preformance. I play a lot of CS:S, and I get like 80 frames on some maps and like 20 on others. Tell me what you guys think.

CS:S really isn't the most intensive game out there, but now at the very least, you can throw on some anti-aliasing for some good times.

1280x1024 OCed my card gets 50 frames on the stress test with Max video settings.

This just seems like a hard AGP deal to pass up since agp general fetch more money than PCIE.

Yea but $350 for a video card is pushing it for me as it is, and next gen cards will be $500+ range.

The point is that by the time the next gen cards are 350, I will be way past due for an upgrade most likely.

...and the X850 will be a good buy at that time.

By the time you could bennifit from the card, you'll be able to pick it up for $100 less.

Save your money.

If what you play now, plays well... why even think about it?

I still use my "flashed" 9800pro128 and play all the new stuff... Doom3...etc. Nothing is poking me to go and upgrade.

doom3 works real good on my 9800pro. and i've noticed that prices for video cards are dropping a lot lately.

The sensible side of me agrees with you, but it seems like a real deal to me.

350 for a X850XT is nice. I just traded someone my 6800GT for the X800XT I have now and the performance jump was noticible in CSS. So if you really like CSS and plan on playing it for awhile I would go for it. New cards probably won't be out until fall anyways (atleast in any great numbers) and I don't think the X850XT will be dropping to much more in price.

Also any chance you would sell the 9800 pro on the FSFT forums to knock $100 or so off the bill?

Yea it is a great price, anyone know about Best Buy's rebates?

And yes I will sell the 9800, $125 shipped does that sound fair? I have an ATI Silencer on it as well. Although the Silencer is loud at startup, and one of the backside heatsink screws broken on it, the Silencer functions perfectly fine. I also have the original stock HSF it came with.

**EDIT** Let me sleep on it, and talk to my friends.

$125 sounds like a fair price with a Silencer on it. I am not really up on my used 9800 Pro prices though so you might want to do a search and see what others are selling thiers for.

I'd wait for R520 or G70 - they should have derivatives for the $300 to $500 price points, and even the $300 offerings will likely be faster than the X850XT and have more features (SLI, PS3.0, possibly unified shaders, and they will likely be fully compatible with Longhorn's Avalon GUI). After all, when the 6800 series came out, even the non-ultra was faster than the 5950U and 9800XT. Same with the 6600GT even. Even if the next gen dissappoints, previous generation cards will have a fire sale.

I agree...although waiting stinks (because it's always is fun to upgrade), it always results in saved $$$$. The longer you wait to upgrade...the cheaper things will be.

thats how it looks like some people feel. I do relize waiting can save you some money but lets be realistic if he buys this now he gets to use it for that much longer. If he waits probably another 4 months for the new cards then he also looses alot of value on his 9800 pro as well and I doubt the price will go down that much either.

$350 for an X850Xt is a great price. However if all you play, is CS:S, then a 9800pro is sufficent. But let's face it, if you get this card, you are going to play other games

Yup I would wait, I've got a Radeon 9800 PRO and while I could go for more performance, I'm not going to upgrade until at least the 512MB next gen cards. After seeing how long my 2 year old video card has lasted, it seems that I made a sound purchase and I plan to purchase a new video card only when I really need it for the next gen games which could very well be AOE III! But if AOE III runs fine with my system, I will wait until 2006 to upgrade and by then the 512MB cards will have fast memory.
