It works, so far. Case is very cheaply made, it looks warped at the slot cut outs. Inserting an XD card takes a little practice to line up correctly. No problems yet. Basically, you get what you paid for. Look fo rthem in your local dollar store soon =)

Bought it on 5/27 and it broke less than 60 days. I am waiting for the warranty to exchange/return/repair. It really a good product when it works, fast and easy. But I didn't expect it to die that fast.

I have always wondered why people say using a card reader saves wear/tear on your camera. When i take my CF card out i have to open the access door and try to eject CF card which most of the time is a pain to grasp then i have to put it in the card reader and then when im done do the same thing to put it in. How is that saving wear/tear on your camera rather than just pugging in a USB cable to the camera?

You'd have to ask someone who made the claim. It might also depend on the camera, for example how flimsy it's card hatch is.

In general though, all of them have a surface-mount mUSB socket that is relatively fragile. My cam has media slot inside same hatch that's used for the batteries so when I swap out batteries, I swap in a different flash card too.

I, for one, love the card reader. My Canon Powershot G6 is only recognized by my PC (when connected via USB cable) through the proprietary software that came with the camera.

Given that, I like to be able to use the standard windows interface of drag and drop between folders, and the only way I get that is by using a card reader.

I guess it really depends on what you want to do and your preferences.

... and how flimsy the pins are.

Its not to save wear and tear...card readers are just so much easier and faster to use. Instead of digging around for your tangled cable and plugging everything in you just pop out the card and pop it in the card reader. So much easier and faster.

For me it's more of a battery thing and speed. Most camera's really use a lot of battery power when connected to USB. If you only get so many recharges out of your battery then you don't want to waste that for file tranfers. I shoot in RAW mode with my Nikon D70 and each photo is about 7 megs and I have a 1gb compact flash card. It takes almost 3X longer to transfer my photos with my camera than it does with a fast USB2 card reader.

Regarding using card readers, I have 3 cameras, a high quality large camera, a reasonable quality tiny pocket camera, and a inexpensive camera for the kids. Each camera has it's own unique USB cable, so I finally broke down and picked up a inexpensive SD-only reader (all the cameras use SD), and it's great. I'm still using the Fuji card reader software even though that camera is long gone since it has one button downloading where it creates a folder with the date, and each photo is renamed to the exact date/time that the photo was taken, very nice.

ncage...for me the key is having 2 cards...1 in the Camera and when it;s full switch out to the other plus tirning th camera on and off can add to the wear n tear not to mention the batttery use as stated...

honestly, cheap card readers just aren't worth it. I've bought 3 or 4 of these no name sub $15 card readers and had nothing but bad luck, corrupted data, broken drives, ect. I bought one good one and tada...no problems
