I know this debate has been debated since the dark age but this is not what the thread is really about.

A lot of people laugh at the fact that a 9mm is a joke and you'll need to put 20 rounds into someone before they'll "feel" anything or drop to the ground due to adrenaline. There has been numerous videos of people getting shot multiple times with a 9mm and didn't die. That's why everyone said you're best to get the .45 for any hand gun.

But the real question is...does anyone have real solid proof/actual videos of being shot with a .45 will stop someone in their track?

Anyone have videos of someone being shot with a .45 multiple times and still high on adrenaline & fighting?

Use CorBon 9MM +P 125 grain or Fed Hydroshok - they'll have knockdown caps close to the weaker .45ACP.

If they have a stronger impact though, wouldn't they have more recoil when firing?

QTF. You're not gonna kill anyone much better with a .45 over a 9mm if you can't aim properly.

Go back to WWII. The Germans Used a 9mm Parabellum Luger Pistol and it was often reported by both US and German soldiers that more than one shot was needed to put a man down but the GI's were proud of their Government issue Colt 45 pistols and said more often than not, it took only one shot to stop an enemy in his tracks.

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moro_Rebellion

This is true - prior to that our troops were carrying .38s.

The thing is, the issue of 9mms lacking stopping power is largely alleviated by +P jacketed hollowpoint bullets, which make it far deadlier. The military is not allowed to use any fragmenting or hollowpoint ammo because it violates the law of war, in that it causes unnecessary cruelty, so in that context the .45 is definitely a superior round.

I think for most recreational shooters with one pistol, 9mm is probably the most practical caliber all around in that you can buy inexpensive range ammo, yet it's still feasible as a self-defense caliber with JHP ammo. If I were buying a gun and seriously planned on using it to defend myself, I'd prefer .45, however.

Pick one 9mm .40 .357SIG .45 will all kill but only having ~400 ft lbs of energy between these rounds with best loads, none will stop someone hyped up on drugs and/or endorphins until their nervous system is destroyed or blood loss. Need 44mag (1,600 ft lbs of energy) or better or shot guns for one hit knock down of these folks.

I like 9mm because of velocity (better range gun) and a little less recoil for faster shooting.

edit: Here is a good comparo

Someone smoking wet is going to take 38 rounds.

Are you a girl? Can't handle a hot 9mm or the recoil of a fullsize .45? Hell, I have a Colt Officers Model and it isn't that punishing to shoot.

I used to carry a SA XD 9mm with nice hydrashock bullets, I have full confidence that you can stop a man with those. That pistol became my wife's pistol once she got used to shooting and wanted to move up from the ruger mark III. I then carried the SA XD compact 40 with hollow point and again had 100% confidence in it's ability to stop a person quickly and efficiently. I sold that to a friend. I know carry a compact 1911 with hollow points. (Kimber ultra carry). Again, I have no worries about this pistol.

I'm confident because I've seen what these rounds can do to large targets on the range such as jugs of water. I am also confident because I know I am well trained and proficient in using my firearms. I am confident in my ability to double or triple tap to the chest/heart area (ok I can't triple with the 45). The only reason I switched to a 45 is for the size factor (I love the way it fits and find the SA XD's a little boxy for carrying). I also find the 45 to be more accurate for me at the range and it's simply a wonderful gun (and 2 times more expensive).

I also own a few rifles and have just as much confidence that a .223 rifle round is going to stop anyone I am forced to shoot.
