Did Moto X 2014 use IMX214? It uses 135 I thought? So if the N6 is using a 214, this might be a good step up.

But remember the OPO isn't THAT great in camera too. In the end the whole package matters. Sensor is only part of it. The firmware, camera module maker, etc all need to come together to give a good package.
Yup, the new X uses the 135.

You're right that firmware is crucial, but with RAW support in Lollipop maybe third-party fixes will be able to do more for camera output than before.

No N5 refresh? Another stupid phablet for $650?

Maybe they'll alternate years and next year the N5 and Moto X will be refreshed with reasonable proportions and prices.

Honestly this makes me thing there were no plans for a Nexus phone this year, this is a Motorola phablet with a Nexus logo on it, but atlest Google made them use the old Moto X dimple.

Was there ever a Nexus that was design wise identical to the other phones of the manufacturer. This is a Moto X ctrl+

I may still actually get this phone (maybe a $699 for 64gig option). Just need to wait for reviews (camera/battery/performance) and see how it physically feels in hand.

Apparently it's coming to Verizon. My buddy that's been holding onto unlimited data is going to be super stoked.

Spec wise this is very similar to the note 4 with out the pen and probably not as good camera for about 100 less. 650 is disappointing and way more than I was expecting but it's not completely unreasonable.

Already forgot the Nexus S?

That's definitely more like the Nexus 4 & LG G then what we are seeing here, this things are identical, down to the brushed power button (only the dimple was changed, because that was just to shinny, or maybe was even a Motorola change of heart since it appears they had plans, that never materialized, with that "fake button dimple").

You could argue that they are so identical that Motorola can't release their own Moto XL after this.

Note 4 is $825 on AT&T unsubsidized though, i'm guessing it's less subsidized.

Be careful, I was called a troll for saying this wasn't a phone. Really want a Nexus phone this year or Sony z3 gets the purchase.

This theory makes sense to me. Google just wants to help Motorola out, it seems.

P.S. If I buy a Note 4 at Bestbuy are there less bloats?

That was not my argument at all, what I am trying to say is that this was not planed, this is the rumoured Moto S with a Nexus back, this is more like a GPE phone with a Nexus logo on the back.... The Nexus 9 is a Nexus, but not the 6, that is just a rebrand.

Note 4 is $700 from Verizon and $750 from T-mobile though. Not sure why AT&T is trying to milk even unsubsidized pricing. Also has an $200 trade-in offer from Samsung for pre-orders.

The only downside is it's quite a massive phone (that width is a bit much) and with the Samsung $200 promo, is temporarily more expensive than a Note 4 pre-order.

Yeah, that is the ouch part.

Oh well, now its just time to decide if I just bite the bullet and make a Moto X now, or hold out hope for some sort coupon on Black Friday...

Guess I will be upgrading my N4 to the N5 and staying a generation behind. No way can I justify $649 when I have a perfectly fine working phone. Maybe I will get lucky and google will drop the price of the 5 as they have traditionally done in the past.
$649..........what a joke.

One very sad takeaway here is that Google apparently raised the white flag against carriers. It was an uphill battle for sure, but it is a loss for us consumers as well.

Now it would be hilarious if the carriers start adding their bloatwares to the Nexus devices.

I find it amusing that so many people are screaming "$649 for a 6-inch smartphone? That's outrageously overpriced!"

Hi, folks, go take a look at the prices of the Galaxy Note 4, Lumia 1520 and iPhone 6 Plus. The $649 price is not only in the ballpark, it's actually one of the better deals. Google is reminding you that hardware companies have to make money, and that this is what phones really cost. It sucks in that the Nexus is losing one of its biggest selling points, but it long felt like Google was leading fans down the garden path and fooling them into thinking that $350 was a realistic price for a high-end phone.

Too big, too expensive, too bad. If this is where things are headed, might as well close down the Nexus line. At this price, it should have been released as a Motorola branded X+.
Nexus is sub $400 price point for a premium phone.

You yourself acknowledge that "it sucks in that Nexus is losing one of its biggest selling points,..."

Then why is it amusing for the rest of us sharing that opinion? Do you laugh at yourself often?

I think that's really where the disappointment is coming from, everyone is used to cheep nexus devices and was expecting something in the 400 - 500 range. If Motorola had released this phone and called it something else without the Nexus branding no one would have batted an eye at the price.

So many complained about the n4 and n5 not having premium build quality or components..or high end components. Well here now they did it and are charging the same if not less than other off contract phones.

For me it doesn't matter, if I get it on contract I loose unlimited data. Whatever phone I buy I need to pay full price and/or leave Verizon for metro unlimited $60 plan.

Was thinking one plus again but after dealing with them for over a month to return it and not liking the yellow band on my model, I won't have that problem if I buy from Google.
