Did you PM that to a Mod? I cannot see them allowing that. It is unfair to the rest of the members who have patiently waited four hours to bump their own thread. And isn't it against policy to up your post count by going on a neffing spree? Can't this be considered the same thing?

No I haven't PM'd a moderator about this. That's the reason I've posted the topic here.
My intention is not to point out individuals, but to address a forum issue that has become a systemic problem.
If people must wait 5 minutes before replying, bumping, etc, then I'm sure a lot of this will clear itself up.

Personally, I don't think this is all that big of an issue. Especially with that user Boonesmi that you've pointed out.

What doesn't get shown in your screen shot is what kind of threads he bumps. He usually bumps threads that no one else bumps and brings them to the attention of ATers.

I also want to point out that not everyone stays in the FS/FT thread 24/7 and therefore would like to return all the bumps given to them all at once, in a timely manner.

I've seen everyone guilty of this, even the OP included. I know I've been guilty of this too (but I only bump threads around 3am).

What I don't like though, are frivolous bumps where someone bumps a thread when it's on the front page already.

I've come to accept the ways of the FS/FT forum and would like it to stay the way it is.

Please give me a hypothetical situation that would require more rapid replies?

IM is available for members that need to chat it up.

What if you're in work and on your lunch/tea/faffin' about/no-reason break and need to tell as many people as possible that their choice of RAM sucks in 5 minutes?

I don't know if I like the idea of a 5 min limit, but I would love to see the bumpfest banned. I would like FS/FT better if you were only allowed to bump your own thread. It's hard to search down the screen when people bump 50 threads before you get to the next page.

I'm kinda new, but I haven't noticed much of problem, or felt it was much of a problem. Things just move quick here.

I wouldn't like to see the OP to be the only bumper. When I have am selling to someone, or am buying from someone on the FS/FT forum, I usually bump their thread as a way to be nice, I don't want to see that go away. I also see nothing wrong with other people bumping posts with good deals or nice stuff.

this morning i was chastised/threatened by a mod (via PM). i was totally confused as to why. i checked the "fs/ft rules" thread to see if there was some rule change about bumping threads for others when reading their posts (didnt see any rule change) then i saw this thread and guessing thats where it came from.

i always thought it was not just OK, but proper etiquette to bump a fs/ft thread if you read it. i often times scan the whole page (100 posts) and open in a "new tab" new threads (to see what is being offered) i may open 10 or 15 tabs. then ill quickly scan through each one to see if there is anything im interested in.. and then ill bump it.

if that isnt appropriate behavior. then it would be nice of them to say as much in the "rules/guidelines"

**edited to add**
ohh i also often times return bumps (which seems to be acceptable/common practice) again if its not appropriate it would be nice if they listed it in the "rules/guidelines"

that's nothing. if the search worked, i'd pull up the thread about another user's bumping, that one was ridiculously crazy like up around 200-300 bumps in one day! There was a string of 10-15 pages solid of threads he had bumped.

if the search function would work again, bumping would become less of a problem, as you can just search for what you're looking to buy. Since it doesn't work, it is unfair for some people's threads to be quickly taken off the first page. But I don't know if there's anything to do to change that.

Ok

If you're going to throw people under the bus, just PM a mod. Or at least stop saying you're not singling anyone out. You've already posted an example of what you're talking about. I'm sure everyone understands the concept, especially compuwiz.

That's assuming people go on bump sprees for their post count, which I do not believe is the case at all.

I like the FS/FT forum the way it is. If you have a problem with your thread being bumped off the page, PM me and I'll bump it back up.

LoL... Your PM box isn't big enough for all the forum requests.
That's really no solution at all.

I think most of the bump sprees are more like 80% "bump trading", and only 20% to increase post count. Some users will go through and bump 20-30 threads, and expect their thread to be bumped an equal number of times in return, thus giving the original bumper more prime time on the front page.

Perhaps the mods can adjust only the FS/FT forums post interval to 5 mins, and leave the other threads at the current 15 second interval?

That would seem to be a reasonable solution to the problem.

Maybe if we all ban together we can change that. Can we count on you Boonesmi, for a 5 minute vote?

lol, nope. i dont have a problem with the current policy (i think its a pretty small minority that does have a problem with it)

if they decide to change it i wouldn't petition for it to change back either (dont really care much one way or the other as long as its consistant and the policy is well spelled out)

Do you love bumping that much?

and i dont really get your point. maybe you misread my post. i said i wouldn't petition to change it back... (ie. if they make it 5min im ok with that)

is it not ok to politely disagree with you?

**edited to add**

i guess i didnt really answer your question "Do you love bumping that much?"

the short answer is: yes

it nice to not have to wait 5 min to either bump a thread im reading and/or return a bump (but if for some reason they decided to change it to 5min bumps.. im ok with that)

Whats the point in bumping 50 threads if the first thread you bumped is returned to the second or third page? Answer: post_count += 50;

Threads that no one else bump don't get bumped for a good reason. We don't need to artificially bump a useless thread to the top when OBVIOUSLY no one wants to see it anyway.
