It's probably the fans. Does your case use 80mm fans like my coolermaster case? If so I like the 80mm nexus fans I put in mine.

Shift-keys make a big difference too! Bwahahahaha!

*edit*

Er... sorry... inside joke...

Have you been 'keyboarding' for 20 years, by any chance?

I have a reason for asking this...

Oh, I dunno...

Sometimes I'm like a dog with a bone, but this is the end of it, believe me!

I guess I was trying to make a point. Some ppl will get it, some ppl won't. Obviously, you got it, so kudos to you!!!

With that, let's just let it go, okay?

Since I swapped out my old fans for Yate Loons, my rigs have been really quiet.
I can hear the 80mm on my oldest rig, but the 120mm are super quiet. Using the 120's on my PC-7 works really fine. You really have to get up close to hear anything and they really keep them cool.

I got a Tt XaserIII v2000A case with seven 90mm case fans in it. The new Chakra I have has a 250mm and two 120mm fans in it. Huge noise difference. The Chakra is nearly silent. I can only hear it when I put my ear up to the side of the 250mm fan. I can hear the Tt running from just a few feet away. The Tt noise has more to do with the video card and psu though IMO than the 90mm fans themselves. All that noise from the various components does add up though.

Once you have quiet fans, the case can make a difference. A case with thicker walls will resonate less and keep more noise inside of the case. Sound dampening material can also play a factor in VERY quiet PC's. (Sound dampening does almost nothing to a loud PC). Lian-Li cases are actually generally pretty loud due to the thin aluminum walls. Your Cooler Master case should actually be more quiet than your friends case once you get rid of all your noisy fans. Don't forget about your chipset and VGA fans because they are also common culprits of noisy PC's.

You think sound dampening would help a thin wall aluminum case like a Lian-Li?
