I like Kiyup's attitude towards his links...I may not be interested in them, but maybe someone I know might.

and another thing, everyone should at least RESPECT each others opinions, just because you don't agree doesn't mean you have to....express your opinions, but do it with respect...avoid using words such as "idiot" "stupid" "childish" "ignorant"..

I couldn't more strongly praise these organizations who wil ordain you for free and basically say, "As long as you're not hurting yourself or anyone else, knock yourself out"
This is freedom.
The freedom to believe and the freedom to not believe.
Freedom OF religion and freedom FROM religion.
I love how it just drives the fundies insane when I tell them they can call me Reverend and it didn't cost me a penny.
Exercise your rights. Be self sufficient. Be your own god if you like. Like I care.....
But, do something....!

Must have been some reason it was thrown away!! You can see it in the translations that are out today. They are full of sooo many mistakes.

have you read that many bibles? hehehe... you say to take for example all the christian bibles in the last 100 years. thats quite a large sample.

I started to get caught up in the debate then I realized this is in the HOT DEALS FORUM!

Personally, I'm going to refrain from being a moron and keep my opinions out of the HOT DEALS FORUM.

If anyone would like to discuss this outside of the HOT DEALS FORUM then please contact me.

Err, I'm not a Christian, but I really think this is a baaaaad topic to start here. The irrationality of all sides, pro and con, is sure to spill out and cause a huge mess just as it always does. If we must have th thread, and you aren't interested, just *don't read it*

My 2 cents!

That's sort of what I do when Jehova's Witnesses and Mormon's come to my door. I don't answer it. Don't they realize that I've more than likely heard of their religion. If I want to join, I'll come looking for them. Otherwise, I wish they'd leave me the h*ll alone.

While we're on the subject.. You know what gets me too? Why is it that the biggest bible huggers in the south are also the most racist? What's with that?

What a lovely inaccurate stereotype...

before this thread gets locked out, I just wanted to second (third?) what others have said that the free Bible that the mormons offer is indeed the King James version. I've got one myself. Not a bad deal for free, if you ask me.

Fyi for those who might not know on the bible offer...The mormon bible has substantially changed the text and intent of the traditional bible you'll find in the King James version(which most are familar with),or an easier to read translation-the New King James version or New International Version (NIV).All of those can be had cheap at many places in paperback and remain true to the meaning of scriptures on which they were based in Hebrew and Greek.

Unfortunately, like ALL translated works of fiction, the original author's actual meaning is frequently altered or not fully conveyed when his words and phrases are replaced by those of a different language. Frequently, there are idioms and words that just do not translate at all, and have a connotative meaning that can only be understood in the cultural and syntactic context of the original language. Thus anyone who reads religious texts that are translated to English cannot possibly be following the divinely inspired word of Whoever, because by definition, a translated "bible" is not "true to the word," open to interpretation, and is frequently open to misreading. Look at how many different offshoots and variations there are to the "Bible religions" as a result -- interesting how such a perfect God could allow such imperfect and multiple translations to take place, knowing full-well that the translated versions would be the only way people could truly learn about Him.......

Just like hordes of innocent people are killed in the name of religion every year, many people will also be flamed here in the hot deals forum for their differences in religious preference. Maybe these religious "deals" and subsequent arguing should be moved to "Off Topic" or someplace other than "Hot Deals." They really don't belong here...

How in the world do people think that "Freedom of Religion" equals "Oppression of Religion"!?

If someone posts a deal (ie. being able to get something cheaper than you would normally find it) then it belongs here.

Please, if you think that posts like this somehow don't deserve to be in Hot Deals then explain this to me. A better solution is to ban those who attack other's religious viewpoints.

According to a 1989 survey, only 10 percent of US citizens aren't religious. I find that hard to believe, seeing all the stuff on the internet. Must be all 10% must be computer literate!

While this is the model way to make a religious freebie post(IE nondenominational) this just can't be on Hot Deals, there are too many flames. Even when there aren't direct flames, someone will retort to a perfectly descriptive reply about one of the deals.

Mods, I ask you this: Make a sticky, nonmoderated(appoint someone to consolidate the deals in the first post, but other than that, leave it alone) "Religious Items" thread so that people know where to go and you don't have to constantly lock these threads. It worked for those looking for items in IWANNA, maybe it will work for the religious(and the bigots, and the flamers, etc) and you won't have to constantly be vigilant for these threads.

You're addressing the symptom not the problem.

Symptom: Threads where someone posted a hot deal that had a religious use and morons post opinionated flames where they do not belong.

Problem: People are allowed to continue posting flames.

Billions more than are killed in the name of religion are NOT killed in the NAME of religion as well.

Im posting this to apologise for any confusion I caused,I was thinking about two things when I wrote what I said, one of which dosent apply. The member who mentioned the mormons use the KJV is correct,my statements about changing the intent and meaning of the scriptures apply to the book of mormon which likely any who recieve a KJV from the mormons will also get.Again, what I said wasnt to disrespect any Mormons who are members here or anyone else. The great thing about America is we all have a right to believe what we want,or nothing at all.If anyone is interested in seeing what Mormon verses Christian doctrine is here is some information on a site I had nothing to do with but Im sure any who are familar with the book of mormon will recognize the passages cited for comparison with the bible.Anyone planning to read the book of mormon might find this interesting.linkified
Thanks Kiyup for your post,I tried for the Rosh Hashanah poster but was getting errors on the confirmation page so Ill try it later...
