I had this problem after you, but I managed to fix it - well 99% fix it anyway.

1. Latest NForce drivers (6.39) enable NCQ by default - which is where I came a cropper.
2. Couldn't even load Windows through any normal means - or fix by using Windows CD.
3. I borrowed an HD from another machine and booted up with my HD as seconday device (using BootMenu).
4. Found a number of programs that could read my old disk OK, but the only free one is PCInspector File Recovery: http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm
5. With this I was able to recover 99% of my data, but I had to use Partition Magic to delete my Partition before I could re-install.

I think my problem was probably more severe than anyone else has reported, so this shows that it is entirely possible to recover from this problem.

Note that 1004.001 BIOS seems like it might fix HTT multiplier at 5x. Avoid OC if you have this BIOS.
