I have been searching and searching and searching....trying to find a laptop with a Pentium M w/2mb cache (aka centrino Dothan), 15+ inch screen (normal or wide) a decent add-on video card (vs built in pokey shared memory ones) and 512mb ram that weighs less than 7 pounds. A decent price point would be nice, if possible, too.

The closest I can find is the Dell Inspiron 8600, but it is over 7 pounds.

Brand doesn't matter, just the above specs.

Anyone know of such a laptop?

I have 10 free gmail account invites to anyone that can find a laptop that fits the bill

Also consider the Gigabye N512 (maybe also sold under Arima name):
http://tw.giga-byte.com/Notebo...ucts/Products_N512.htm
This is sold as the Savrow Razor (in the UK), and sounds like its coming out sometime this month in the US (even though gigabye says its available, I haven't seen it anywhere yet). Search for more info on notebookforums.com. Im looking forward to this one since its 5.2 lbs, 15" SXGA", Radeon 9700 64 mb.

Sager 3790 - http://www.sagernotebook.com/p.../centrino_systems.html

P-M 2MB cache @ 1.5-2.0GHz
512+ ram
ATI 9700 mobility 128MB
available WUXGA screen or WXGA @ 15.4 inches

"Weight: 6.6lbs. with Battery"

http://www.sagernotebook.com/p...t.cfm?ProductType=3790

- this is the smaller battery; the twice as large one doubtless weighs a bit more.

w/ 512 megs, 1.7 Ghz, and WUXGA the price is 1795.

I just ordered one; I'll let you know how it goes!
I mainly ordered this one for the display; I saw one at Best Buy and it is purrrrrdy.... mmmmmm!
At 1920x1200, you can put two web pages side by side no problem. Reading them is another issue...

Most of the samples in this thread are very moderately priced. Expensive mobile machines start at $3,000 - $3,500 and can go much higher, depending on the configuration.

A number of excellent suggestions in this thread. Will include the better choices, and a few others below in a concise list:Be aware most of the above are available from a multitude of sources, and thus one is not forced to purchase a machine from one particular source.

Maybe, instead of insisting that the laptop weight under 7 pounds, you start lifting some weights and deal with it? I mean, in all seriousness, we're talking about under 20 pounds here, what's the problem?

How about the HP ZT3000. Check it out at shopping.hp.com. Configured the way you want around $1400 or so with a weight of 6.5lbs. Coupons floating around. $25 off coupon code: SV2829 (exp 11/12)

Hope that helps

The inspiron 8600 actually starts at 6.9lbs, and I doubt adding a memory stick and upgrading the mem card to 128mb would add 1/10th of a pound I think for what you want it's the best value, even though it might be ever so slightly over your weight limit. Though I'm not sure what your application is, and weight can kill the deal in some cases... so I should probably keep my mouth shut

Yeah, try that. I have a customized ZT3000 weighing under 7lbs, about 1.3" thick, 60gb 5400rpm drive (that you can replace with 7200rpm), 15.4" WUXGA screen, lets see what else, 802.11g wireless, radeon 9200 video card, 768mb memory, dvd/cdrw

Around $1300 a month ago.

here are some good choices, all under 2k

personally i'd take the 8003 over the Ferrari because of the battery life, may or may not buy a laptop now, but if i do, it'll be my first intel purchase in ten years , last Intel thing i bought was a Pentium mmx 200, since then its been smooth AMD sailing, unless you can find a cheap addtl battery for the F3200, go with the 8003WLMI

Would it not make more sense for you to post a budget rather than comments of this nature? No doubt the suggestions would be more toward your liking if you gave an indication of what price range of machine you are seeking.

If you have a low budget, the dell is for you. It has its problems, but dell's price points are at the point right now that sh!tty build quality can be forgiven.

Yeah, i just ordered an 8600 for an amazing price. Specs are 1.6ghz pentium M, 128mb ATI Radeon 9600, dvdrom/cdrw, wireless b/g, 40gb hd, 15.4'' WXGA+ (1680x1050), 256mb pc2700 ram. Costs $1600 retail, but i got it for $990.25 shipped after 25% off and $200 rebate. Ram is a little low, but picked up a 512 stick for $89 on newegg.
