Hi,
I have a few questions that need answering, so rarther than have multiple threads for each ones, i thought that i`d compile them all into one thread.

1) How many case fans can be considered overkill?

2) Ive heard that having more intakes than exhausts can cause a dust build up, is this true?

3) Would a 120mm fan mounted on a Zalman fan bracket, above a SLK-800 cool the SLK-800 effectivly?

4) Asuming the above worked, and that i did it, what would stop the air getting sucked out by the exhaust fans before it hit the HS? See pictures on my website for idea of what im on about.

5) Can anyone tell me the specifications of the ATI 9700pro stock fan? Ive looked everywhere for it. Or at least the dBa or CFM rating.

Thanks in advance guys/gals

1. There is not a set number of fans that becomes overkill. I am currently running 3-92mm L1As and 2-80mm L1As on a Sunbeam Rheobus. At full speed my MB stays at ambient temperature, at 5V the computer is silent. I think a Rheobus set up the way I have it is the way to go.

2. Actually, you have this backward I believe. Having more exhausts will cause the case to suck in air from every little opening in your case sucking dust in with it. If you have more intakes than exhaust and filter them, dist will be greatly reduced.

3. Sorry, but I don't have a 120mm fan or a fan bracket, but I think you might be better with a 92mm fan on a brackett if you choose to go that way becasue a lot of the 120mm would be overhang and there would be a big dead spot near the hub of the fan.

4. I couldnt find the pictures you were reffering to, but I dont think it would.

As for overkill, that?s all relative. As your case gets hotter the more air flow you need. Bu the important think is to have same amount of air flowing as out. Imbalance in either direction creates different problems. And you're going to have dust no mater what, unless you put filters on you intakes.

As for the Zalman bracket for your CPU, I think a 120mm to 80mm funnel would probably work better.

as for the ATi fan I'm not sure.

Never seen those, but due to the way that a fan connects to a SLK-800, it wont fit without making a new holding mechanism for the HS. Plus with the Zalman, i can mount the old 80mm over the 9700pro. And 1coolPC are a US company, and im in the UK, i dont like the idea of importing either.

Most places that sell cooling stuff should have them.

And you could just use some tie wire to hold it down.

I know the addresses of every UK store that sells parts like that and none of them sell it. Thats why i was considering the zalman route. Easyier to get, easyier to install.

The main problem with having a lot of fans is improper configuration. I have 10 fans in my midtower, but they are setup so that the airflow is balanced and directed.

3) Would a 120mm fan mounted on a Zalman fan bracket, above a SLK-800 cool the SLK-800 effectivly?

You are right in assuming airflow would be diverted before effectively cooling the heatsink. Especially with a lower cfm 120mm fan. Also, the way the slk-800 is designed, it takes a lot of pressure to force air between the fins. The best cooling solution would be a duct from the side panel to an 80mm fan on the slk800. Thats the only way to ensure the air entering the HSF is unobstructed by case airflow.

I was thiking of a 120mm fan on a bracket because it`ll allow far more air flow, but less noise. If i was to put a "shield" on the same side as the two exhaust fans(not over the fans, on the 120mm), would that be sufficiant to stop the 120mm fan ir being sucked out?

Lol.
The cabling aint that bad. Its got no window on the case, and the area around the cpu is clear, so in my books, its ok. Becides, i cant be arsed getting the pc out from under the desk. It takes ages to unplug everything.
