I now work in lead lined rooms, with 50 lbs of lead clothing... 0 bars all day every day.

On a brighter note, my hospital did fire up the WiFi for visitors, don't know that kind of hardware they're using but it has a hell of a signal, so strong it works for about 1/8 mile around the hospital

I know the feeling. I was recently moved to the freakin basement from the 4th floor where I had full 3G signal all the time. Now I don't even have a window to look out of and my phone get's 1 bar of EVDO. They did finally unblock Gmail at work though so I guess that's something.

I worked at a job where you could not bring anything into the building that could potentially be used to communicate out. That meant no cell phones at all, no MP3 players, no flash drives, not even a CD-R. We didn't have any outside internet/email access at our computers, either.

i fixed a plc system in a fab shop a few weeks ago that had searches for cameras and phones, NDAs and everything. i was one of the people that actually get to pass with a phone, the looks on their employees faces when i used my phone on the production floor were great. i dont think i could deal with (or do my job completely) without a phone available.

After being spoiled by carrying a cell phone around constantly for years, I don't think I could live without at least being able to check it once an hour or so. I worry too much about emergencies, and even missing a general "how about lunch?" message just plain sucks.

At the very least, they'd have to pay me a very hefty sum to be willing not to have any outside communication throughout the day.
