Yes there is diversity in America but not to the point most of you think. Even with the different races and cultural backrounds there is one thing that for the most part binds us together. That is the core beliefs that have up to this point defined America. Again these must be maintained or you will no longer have America. Why is it you think Mexico sucks? Remember Mexico is a democracy and it is the people of that nation and their culture that have made it what it is today.

Those are pretty diverse numbers, in my opinion. 31% of the country isn't even of non-hispanic European descent. To think that 31% of the country should or doesn't have any influence on the culture is wrong.

If by diversity you mean that 31% of people are not white then yes there is diversity. It was my understanding that this thread was about culture. Then you have to split that number up. 12.1% of those are black which have almost wholly adopted traditional US culture. I can't remember the last time I called an automated service and heard an option for Gullah. Along with this fact the percentage of blacks in the population has remained almost the same over the last 20 years. This is not saying that blacks do not contribute to society but simply that their culture has not influenced change to the basic American philosophy.
This cannot be said of the Hispanic population. The percentage of hispanics has doubled in the last 20 years. This in and of itself is not a bad thing. The problem is the changes we have made to accomadate their culture. Go back to my first post in this thread to see examples.
If you read my post you will see that I am not against Mexican immigration but against changes to society to suit there culture. My purpose for the statistics is to show that there is a defined based population that has brought the country to the place it is today. That base culture is slowly dwindling no matter which side you look at. Race or Religion. Luckily the principals of what it is to be an American have permeated most people regardless of race so America will be America no matter what color makes up the population.
However this doesn't seem to be the direction we are taking by catering to the Mexican culture. We do not need to change America for them they need to change for America or we will become Mexico. As I said in my first post Mexican immigrants should be made to learn English, be taught the basic ideals of what it is to be American, and be told what their labor is really worth.

Actually it could be argued that blacks have a different culture in its music and such, which has greatly contributed to the overall culture. In addition, not all of the 69.1% whites are exactly the same - many are immigrants from Europe now and many are different in their Italian, Irish, etc. heritage and proudly show it. So, yeah, pretty diverse in culture.

We should and will change a some due to a large number of Hispanics. It's ridiculous to say that 12+% of our population has no impact on the overall culture or country.

However, we shouldn't completely uproot everything about the country. I don't really like it if a Mexican immigrant can't speak English, but I'll be fine with it if their children can at least.

BTW, what are the basic ideals to be American?

Here is a really simple one from my first post: The fact that Mexican culture values an extended family habitation. This is fundamentaly different from the general American view of what is supposed to happen. How long do you intend to live with your parents? This in itself has detrimental effects on society. See my first post for an explanation.
Your example of black and immigrant European cultures doesn't hold much water because the majority of them consider thereselves first and foremost Americans.
I guess that I should also state that my views are based on personal experience. I am typing this from the office of a community that I manage which is over 50% hipanic. Everything that I have stated I have personally witnessed.
One of my biggest problems is using the state social service organization to help me with problems. I had a translator come in to try and get the Mexicans to watch there kids and keep them out of the street. She personally came around with applications for government assistance and helped them fill it out. Now I have a group of Mexicans that usually has no less than a few thousand dollars in their pocket at all times receiving government assistance.

Its like this. In every war one side comes out worse off, one side comes out better off. In WWII the Axis came out worse off. Which is good. BUT if they had come out better off, those of direct German descent would have been better off. Which means I would have been better off. Again, I dont agree with the views, but the fact remains.... To the victor go the spoils.

Unless you or your ancestors were blue eyed, blonde haired and came from the right lineage you would have been thrown in the oven eventually. Even then excess population would have been "controlled". And given their history of genocide that would have been a given. "Been better off?" Not! It wouldnt be America, it would have been a worldwide, xenophobic, nightmarish dictatorship.


Consider:

They killed 6 million Jews and several other million people as well. Dont you think that once they decided there were too many people on the planet they would have killed people who had babies without permission? That includes the blue eyed blondes with the right lineage. The world would be a sad sorry place if they had won.

Well I don't think that you can realistically expect a new Mexican immigrant to be completely like us instantly. We haven't expected it of any other immigrants at any time. However, their children and perhaps themselves will change. You can't expect something overnight. And when they change, they'll still have some of their Mexican culture and heritage and it isn't wrong to retain any of that.

Personally, I think that extende family idea could be a positive thing that they can bring to American society. What is detrimental about it? Lots of Asians have extended families living in the same home. I think it's nice to see people care about their famiily instead of throwing them out. It's nice to see people treat their aging parents with respect, too. It's also nice to see kids not threaten their parents for not buying them the latest video game. A strong family is a good thing, IMO.

I see people with Irish flags, shirts, etc. all of the time. Nobody ever complains about these people with Irish flags. What about Italians? Same thing. However, I feel that people will always complain about a person of Mexican descent having a Mexican flag on their car. Maybe because they look different?

I understand that and completely agree. Like most other mass immigrations it is the second generation (usually) that becomes "Americanized". All I am saying is that promoting things that slow this process is the wrong direction to take.

I'm sure that the descendants of these Mexican and other immigrants will be just like us, too. You have to go through some hardships on both side to reap the benefits for this country.

I'm saying from a purely factual standpoint, IF Hitler had won, my grandmother, being suarkraut for breakfast German would have been very well off. This naturally would have carried down through the family to me.

Because of where my family came from, yes. Its the truth. I fail to see how me stating a truth suddenly means I AGREE with the ideals behind that truth.
