You may end up getting another car, at which point you will NOT sell the current car, you will return it to the family.

"Passed down" car, so to speak.

Ok, that helps clarify it. I'll put it this way : You drove it to the point it needed that maintenance. Do you *have* to pay for it? No. But you'd be a dick if you didn't. It sounds like you've assumed the car as your own for the past 15K miles, it's a given that you'd assume responsibility for it as well.

Since this dead horse has already been beaten, I think I should beat it some more.

Think of it this way. What if you DIDN'T drive it for 15K miles. There would still be 75K miles on the car and NO major service due. Thus, you are the sole reason it needs the major 90K mile service. Since you are the reason for the service, you pay for the service.

What is the repair?

If its like a timing belt, and you don't own the car, then you pay 15/90ths of the cost and the previous driver pays the rest.

If its an oil change..well that should be on you.

Doesn't really matter whose car it is, if you drive it, you pay for the maintenance. What a stupid question.

Why is that? You don't have the balls to tell them all sales are final and fuck off and die?

I'm not rich. I've got student loans that would be a nice down payment on a home.

Your high horse isn't the only ass around here.

EDIT However in 99% of cases I can not see any scenerio in which the current owner, which I assume is you would be responsible for the repair.

my mom passed down a 84 toyota celica to me after my bro was done with college (he was spoiled, lol) i already had 2 cars and 3 kids of my own, she just didnt have room for it at her house. after she drove it for 80k and my bro ran it into the ground for the next 70k, i got it. lasted 2 months and the head gasket blew. she was like "wow, bummer, dood" when i told her about it lol. i donated it it to charity at that point.

As others have said, if the car is now fully in your possession, then you (or the current owner) should pay the 90k mile service.

However, if the person who drove those first 75k miles is still a co-owner/co-user, then he or she should be responsible for at least half the service/repairs.

Parent's car, so they drove it for 50k, gave it to oldest son for 2 years, he drove it to 75k, then gave it to brother. OP will pay for major service, proved that hydro has been smoking too much herb, and wins 10^10 battle points

I fixed your spelling.
