Just got off of the phone with a good friend (USMC) of mine who just boarded the USS Harpers Ferry. Haven't seen him in over a year. It's rough but stay with it.

If I use 180 rounds, I could most likely get some from someone else in the patrol. However, if I use 180 rounds, something went really, really wrong.

The guys that carry more rounds are Machine Gunners. If you are carrying an M4 / M16, you only take 180. That's the standard combat load.

The biggest consideration is weight. The body armor alone is around thirty to forty pounds. Add radios, rifle, ammo, helmet, food, water, etc and you are going to be hurting if you overburden yourself.

As it is, after patrolling for 12-16 hours and covering 7-10 miles, I'm pretty much ready for bed when I'm done.

From one ex-military guy to another, I salute your contribution to this country! :thumbsup:

Are you guys making progress? When is the war going to be over?

Why would you ask someone going on patrol when the war is going to be over? "Progress" in Helmand, Kandahar and the Eastern provinces is often measured in all your coalition forces going home at the end of the day. In some places the insurgency is so active that even when the locals want to help, even they can't keep track of the number of pressure plate IEDs being strewn about their towns and villages. Their kids get blown up, coalition soldiers get blown up, it's a mess. My point being, someone patrolling day in and day out, living in the conditions that this Marine is likely doesn't see much beyond his little sector of the war. Because he bought his own magazines, most likely. Though there is an NSN for Pmags now, so they can be ordered through your supply chain if your CoC is willing to pay for them.

I understand, I just returned Nov 22nd. Ive been where you are, once. 1/2 replaced me, I am with 3/1 Kilo. Dehli was my Company pos, I was down in Khojibad if you have any idea where that is. I dont know whats worse, you getting the rain season and cold, or my 130f days.

There was some bad times pushing them out of our area. Did Roadhouse 2, clearing the Safar Bazaar. Where COB Wrankle is. Anyways, have fun. Hopefully you all make it back safely. I lost two close friends.

I'm with 2/3 Echo right now. They got here in November and are leaving in May.

I know where Rankle is at but I've never been there.

Sorry about your boys, man. My roommate for a year at language school stepped on an IED on his first mission. They just had his funeral about a week ago. I was pretty upset at first. It really sucks.

But whatever, you can only do so much. All in all, I'm having a pretty good time out here.
