A gamepad for 2d gaming?

I have quite a few 2d fighters/platformers on my pc, though I lack a controller to truely enjoy them. As of now I have a Wingman Rumble pad, possibly the worst dpad I have ever used. I have looked at all of the popular brands (I try to do research before bothering the forums ) though I cannot seem to find anything I like. I am looking for something in the vein of the old Genisus 6 pad controller or either of the saturn controllers. The sidewinder has a nice layout but looks like a boomerang with an annoying dpad to accent that. I would also like to point out I know about the n64 to pc and psx to pc adapters. Thanks and such

Yeah I wish I could justify spending that much cash on a controller though hehe. I remember reading about that beast in Maximum PC, looks like its built well but the price tag arg.....

if you don't need analog, get the old MS sidewinder gamepad. it's excellent for 2D games. no problems getting combos in SF and KOF clones for example.
if you need analog, consider getting a PS2 USB adapter. they are very cheap right now.

if you don;t want one of those, gravis has a very good digital/analog gamepad for around 50-60 Bucks, i forgot the name, i went with PS2 USB.
