A Gamer's LCD

I am looking for a good LCD for a gamer to use. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My friend just bought a HITACHI CML174SXWB Monitor and he says its great. Also Hitachi has a great dead pixel return policy. I'm looking into buying a Viewsonic VP171B from dell with a stackable coupon so i'm hoping it will bring it down to around $450.

Dell 1800 FP is a great LCD. And yes I do use it for games...CS....Warcraft3...Splinter Cell...UT2003...plays fine w/ no visible ghosting of any sort.

The Hitachi CLM174 and NEC 1760NX are both 16ms-response LCDs, IIRC. The lower the pixel response rate (combined rise and fall), the better, and currently I think 16ms is as low as it gets. You sacrifice some color depth, though--I think 16ms panels are only 16-bit, whereas slower panels are 24-bit. GamePC and TomsHardware have a bunch of LCD reviews. There's also a huge LCD thread in the A/V forum at Ars.

16ms panels, are not 16bit, they can handle 24bit colour. They do however have a few shades of colours missing, but the panel reproduce these by bleding several other shades together. In any case, this is not noticeable. At all.

Admittedly the difference is probably mainly technical, but "they can handle 24bit" is not the same as "they are 24bit."

Well researched there. I cant remember where i read that from, it seems youve found it.
But its still not noticeable. The reason why companys wont admit this, is because it would put off buyers if they knew it couldnt handle colours as well as other TFTs, but like i said, it isnt noticeable.

I have it! The thing rocks, no ghosting during games or ANYTHING. It offers CRT performance and colors with the body of an LCD.

I am using the DVI interface which provides (to my eyes) slightly sharper textures. My only gripe is when you change resolutions for about a second it shows a note saying "Digital", oh well.

I would definantly buy again! Two thumbs up!

What bothered me also was the message from the monitor when you are not in 1280x1024 mode saying you are not running an optimal resolution. Until I figured out how to turn it off it was driving me crazy! The Digital message to is also annoying. Do you get it if you are running analog?

there is a 16ms $339 after $30 rebate from man in the HD forums. TigerDirect is the dealer which is hit or miss. same panel as the other 16ms one good deal if they don't have a bunch of dead pixels and the rebate goes to Man and not TD itself.

I got a 25ms response monitor myself, and frankly my eyes can't tell the monitor is lagging or anything like that. I play counter-strike, UT2003, and other games and haven't experience any difference from my CRT. I picked up my 19" Nec for around $500 and so far had no problems at all with it.

I have the Hitachi CML 175SXWB bought from monitors direct Here
I love it no ghosting whatsoever, and my colors are sharp and vibrant.
My friend couldn't beleive the picture in UT2003, it replaced a Hitachi 19" Superscan.
I only loose an inch of screen and have my desktop back again.
I paired it with a 9800 Pro and it looks sweet. Highly recommended

If i remember correctly, the CML175 is the CML174 but with speakers. Correct?

I get a headspin everytime i play games on my 19" LCD damn ghosting ..... but i guess thats what you get when you buy a $400 19" LCD ... Albatron 17" --- its a 19" Equivalent to a CRT monitor

Its a Great monitor but avoid it if you want to play games. !!!

Dammit, sorry about that.

I bought a KDS rad-5 LCD (15", 1024x768) for $255 off newegg, and I am impressed by the quality it offers for its very low price. Its combined response time is 25ms, and for games, I do notice some blurring/ghosting if I strafe and stare at a single object, but I can easily overlook this and it's fine for playing them. The auto-tuning features are cool, although each time I auto-tune color, the percentages for R,G,B change, so I don't really understand how it tunes itself.

EDIT: I'm on crack. I swear I didn't see an edit button though! Wish I could delete that one up there.
