Anyone know an exact power supply that will do good with overclocking and be somewhat quiet for around $50 shipped?
I've heard the antec true powers are good.
Let me know, I am ordering tonight
thanks

Are you going to trust your several-hundred-dollars-worth of computer parts to a $50 PSU? Go for an Antec truepower 430.

Truepower 330 is only $55 + $7 from newegg. Worth it if you're overclocking. Otherwise I'd pick up one of the 300 watt sparkles in the hot deals forum.

There are many great CPUs for around $50 shipped.

I reccomend the Antec Truepower 330.

If you are running a large system however you may want to consider the Truepower 430.

I personally would not touch a refurbished PSU, let alone a newegg refurbished one.

It is currently $52.99 shipped at Amazon.com. Used to be even cheaper with the $5 off $35 coupon.

Thanks for all of the great recommendations guys.
I searched newegg for true power and out came this in the results. The reviews actually look good on this power supply. Tell me what you guys think personally.

I have been buying the cheapest $20 case/ps combos thru pricewatch.com for years and have never had a PS fail or fry any hardware.

You don't need an Antec of Enermax if they cost too much. Enlight, Sparkle and Heroichi(HEC) do the job just fine at a lower cost. Just don't get the really crap ones like iCute, Foxconn, Raidmax, Codegen, etc...

Yup, I will trust my entire systems to $20 dollar liteons. Same reason why Compaq uses them for their servers.

In general, you get wha you pay for with psu's. That's not to say that occasional good deals don't pop up, like the LiteOns from Directron. These are pulls or manufacturer's overstocks or similar- when they're gone, they're gone, like their deal on 300w Deltas last year. Sometimes these psu's have weird cable lengths or unusual minimum output requirements, so somebody who just wants one unit for their own box is probably safer to buy one of the major makers' supplies. If I wanted one today, I'd buy one of these- Sparkle. Or one of these, actually a much better buy. Same maker, different label- Fortron

Arrgghhh! The Fortron won't link right, just have to look it up at Directron...

Apparently not too many quiet freaks on here. I put my vote for Fortrons, or those Silenx power supplies, they tend to run much quieter than Enermax "Whispers" or those Vantec "Stealth bombers"

Here's another vote for the Lite-Ons!

I recently got one to use in the new system I built, and decided to "sleeve" the cables. It was an incredible job to get the connectors apart! There are 2 cables on this PS that are 27" from the PS to the first of 2 connectors...plenty long enough for the biggest full-tower case!

I find it interesting the number of answers here that lead one down the path towards many flaky and serious problems, by people who have good intentions but are clueless in general about PSUs, which should be a solid foundation of a box but are not sexy.
From a techs viewpoint it equals job security, for the industry it means more products sold. I would suggest before making a recommendation for this or that, research the item, find out the difference between a watt, volt and amp. See that many ratings were written by marketing people, they lie! Find out that less than an accurate +12volts is needed more than ever and not that many 400 watt PSs have more than 15a available, even the better ones. That may be ok today but what happens when the next power hungry toy is installed? Set off the smoke alarm? Pay now or pay MUCH MORE later. Good luck, I?ll duck now!

I tried using the cheap 400W Turbolink (not sure what brand that is) PSU that came with my case. But as soon as I got my 9700 Pro my system started beeping anytime I started running anything 3D (games, screen saver, 3DMark, etc...). It couldn't hold the rail within specs when the 9700 Pro was drawing more current. That's the last time I'll use a cheap PSU. I then switched to an Enermax and it performed perfectly. But I've recently replaced it with a 400W 14 dBA SilenX (Fortron) PSU for noise reasons. It too performs perfectly and with virtually no noise at all.

enermax has no warranty execpt through dealer. So becareful if you buy an enermax, buy it from newegg or a highly rated vendor.
