A guy at work has me wanting a Keurig, is this a decent one?

Looks like the one my mom has. She hasn't had any issues with it. When I've used during visits it seems to work well.

Those are fine. Run white vinegar through it every once in awhile to keep it clean.

If you're only drinking one cup at a time, they're alright. Nice that it comes with a reusable filter pod. The premade pods are a colossal waste of money.

So I drink coffee....I'm not a coffee snob, but like 8 o'clock columbian at home.....we have a Starbucks near work that I visit every other day.

I have a Keurig at my desk and can't get over the taste of the coffee. To me, I can always tell it's Keurig coffee....don't know if it's the flavor of the kcups plastic or the machine itself, but it's not as good as coffee from a real coffee pot. To me, it's ok if you want a cup of caffine and don't have another quick option. Convenience is nice, but I rarely use mine anymore.

As for these kinds of makers, check out Nespresso. I stayed in a hotel that had a Nespresso maker and I couldn't get enough of that coffee. They use coffee pods that are in foil packs...they look like discs. The quality of the coffee out of those machines was amazing. The model I used was a CS100 Pro or something....about $1300 retail, so I don't know if they have a cheaper home version available that uses the same pods. Check it out if you have the means: http://www.nespresso.com/pro/uk/en/product/CS100/EUR

Had to take mine apart about a month ago. It would suck water up and then put it right back in the receptacle and stopped coming out where the coffee cup was. A quick look online showed that over time they can get "stopped up", normally by hard water deposits, but we have a water softener so I'm not sure why it was having issues. I tried to blow it out with an air duster but it didn't dislodge the plug. I then tried using my air compressor and it blew apart a hose deep inside which necessitated having to take the entire darn machine apart. These are intended to snap together, not snap apart. I got it fixed but its not "tight" like it used to be. Still works great though and since it sits in one place, not an issue.

Mine gets water from the filtered line on the fridge, never had any problems with it.

are you really telling the guy looking at buying a used $65 machine to buy a $1300 top of the line model?

No. I don't expect him to pay that...I certainly wouldn't, but wish I could afford it. I was really hoping someone else would chime in that they've tried Nespresso stuff.

That's not thier top of the line model. It was a hotel/office model that I used....the coffee pods were better because they were foil packs that left no plastic or stale coffee aftertaste....not sure if the coffee is freeze dried or what.

They offer home models....but they don't use the same coffee pods....they look more like k-cups, so I'm not sure how good they are.

I got a cheaper low end Nespresso machine. GREAT expressos. The pods are $0.65 ~ $0.70 each, depending on what flavors you are getting. If you goto the Nespresso website they have discontinued product bundles for a lot cheaper than newer models. This is what we did.

Bad thing is that you can't get the pods just anywhere. In the MD, VA or DC the only physical place you can purchase pods is in Chevy Chase. Otherwise you have to go online.
