Nobody should be using Win98 anyhow... and if they do on a machine with 768MB DDR then they deserve to have bad things happen to it.

I was using my system with 768MB SDRAM for a long while on Win98SE. Just have to edit system.ini [vcache] line and add/set the MinFileSize and MaxFileSize values to something reasonable. Win98 doesn't need the ram, and most apps don't either, but, it was cheap and it didn't hurt anything to have. Pretty sure it was the dell deal for 3sticks of 256 for $99 about a year or 1.5 ago.

I can't wait for these prices to drop. I've had 256MB Corsair PC3000 in my system for about 6 months now, and I can't play any games decently. I don't like using a huge SwapFile when I won't really have a need for one otherwise.

Don't forget that you can also hookup a ramdrive with the extra memory for some awesome transfer rates. You can find free ramdrive programs on the web. There are also professional ramdrive utilities that will backup your ramdrive to harddisk in the event of poweroutage.

I've used ramdrive as a temporary internet cache & web pages go alot faster. Not sure whatelse you can use it on in every day life, maybe databases where disk access is needed. Or you can copy your mp3 collection for 1000x performance

Shouldn't RAM be listed right there under 'Silver' and 'Gold' on the financial page of the newspaper? Its pretty much a standardized commodity now (256Mbit, 512Mbit, 1Mbit DRAMs.) I see beaucoup opportunities with spot markets and the like!

isnt nforce 2 dual channel? running it with only one stick will slow you down.
