A Knight's Tale -- is it just me, or does this look like the stupidest movie EVER?

I mean, c'mon. They've got all these guys talking with current slang back in the medieval days, the soundtrack is made up of Rob Zombie, etc (nothing against them, just doesn't fit the movie), and every line in the trailer is so corny it's embarrassing. I give it 2 months before it hits Blockbuster.

It seems too often the story behind the movie is just a vehicle to put whoever happens to be in the midst of their fifteen minutes on the screen. This one does look kind of dumb, and it also looks like an excuse to put whoever the lead guy is on the screen.

However, I wish someone would do one of these medievel movies right. No romantic crap. Just lots of guys in armor beating the crap out of each other. And maybe some dragons. And not any sissy "friend to the humans" dragons neither. Mean dragons. Yeah.

I want battle scenes ala Braveheart... with blood and severed limbs. I wanna see closeups of boiling tar being poured down castle walls and onto the footsoldiers below. I wanna see deag pigs being stacked in a tunnel underneath a tower and lit ablaze. (heat causes cracks, tower to crumble). I want a brutal glimpse of peasant lives, of hours of hard work, awful food and sewage problems. Maybe we should write our own screenplay, I hear the normal guys are going on strike, now might be our chance.

Dude- We're only going to be in for some jousting. I mean, there'll probably be one scene where the guy wins his first joust and gets initiated into the elite joust world.

Another where he loses to some villian

And a final one where he beats that guy.

I'm actually looking forard to seeing the movie. Then again, I've spent years doing sword and shield fighting in armour and may have taken too many blows to the head.

I think it looks pretty stupid, as well, but I read a Rolling Stone review that makes me think twice. Basically, he says that no, it isn't an authentic view of medievel times, but it is a hell of a fun movie. I personally don't go to movies to get authenticity, I go to have a good time. Fantasy is all about the suspension of disbelief, that's what makes it fun. Who cares if they use modern slang? Do you really think you would be able to even understand the movie if they spoke in Old English?

Edit: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon did poorly in Asian markets because the lead characters were speaking Mandarin, when that is not their native tongue. Asian audiences knew it and were unable to get past the poor speech. Yet, that was more authentic to the period and setting they were portraying.

I wouldn't call it the stupidest movie ever. But it doesn't seem like it's going to be a very deep movie. Maybe even a little too teen-oriented for me based on the previews. Could be amusing, although it won't be enough to persuade me to shell out $8 to see it. .. .

I was racking my brain trying to remember Excalibur's title. I haven't seen that in such a long time. Maybe 13 years ago? If they could make something like that with more of a Braveheart flavor, I'd be happy.

I'm really curious to see what they do with Lord of the Rings. From what I understand, movie makers don't like having to put too many main character's on the screen. I saw on TV where the fellow that made that movie based on a videogame (Streetfighter?) complained that the higher-ups demanded that he include every character from the game, and that it killed the movie. The people that made X-Men were careful not to use too many characters to avoid the same thing. If someone knows why, please fill me in. Anyway, although I'm sure it will be visually stunning, I'm not sure they can do justice to such a complicated story with so many characters. Even a 3 hour movie doesn't seem like enough time to tell the story from the first book without rushing it. We'll see.

Maybe they think it'll be too complicated for us simple minded folk? Kind of like reading a Russian novel. They have like 20 important characters and you need to know their first and last names, and who they know and when they met, etc. It just gets too complicated for &quot;most&quot; people. That's as good a guess as any.
