A little help please...

Hello, first post here but I've been lurking a long time.

I recently built my first cpu and It works fine except for one problem.

I can't install Microsoft Office, Norton Anti-virus and a couple of more things.

This is the error I get

"There is a problem with this windows instaler package. A dll required for this install to complete could not be run."

I can connect to the internet, run 3dMark 2001, prime 95, Sandra, etc...

This problem I just mentioned may or may not be related to another error message that popped up recently (it hasn't always been there).

This one appears during POST right after the IDE drives have been detected. This message is:

"IDE channel 1 no 80 cable installed"

Any ideas on what this could mean? Do you guys think its related.

The Dvd/CD reader works fine. I can access files on CDs without problem.

Not likely related. It sounds like there is an OS problem. Check that forum for more help. I would check your pc for virus & adware etc...
If there isn't much installed, might be easy to format & reinstall...

That ide no 80 cable installed means you might not have an 80 wire cable on that channel, just a 40. Double check it but i dont think that would affect any of your other problems.

Which means that your drives will only run at ATA33 speeds, Not ATA66/100/133. Sounds like you got a software problem Hekmat. BTW, what OS are you running? Have all drivers been installed? Service packs, etc.?

I see, and 80 cable is ide cable right, so I'll have to go and buy a new one. Not that big of a problem I guess.

A Format sounds feasible, I'll do those things, and reply back here if it doesen't work. I use windows XP by the way, thanks for the help.

if XP you can try the command sfc which checks the os files
