I'll give you some extra facts:
the US of Apes is about 24x bigger than The Netherlands.
The Netherlands contains 16 million people.
2/3 of the size is land, the other 1/3 is water.
Softdrugs, euthanasia, abortion are legalised.
Dutch people like beer. (and I mean beer, not bud-shit)
Many dutchmen think americans are fat and sue everybody for nothing.
Dutch people dislike the French because they're very nationalistic and don't speak English.
Dutch people like to rule the rc5-64 contest
The Netherlands is THE country of the unlimited traffic-jams.
The Netherlands is THE country if you want to pay taxes (if you earn a decent living you pay 60% to the government).
The Netherlands is THE country where everybody that doesn't want to work gets government fees (more than enought to rent a house and make a comfortable living)
The Netherlands is THE country that relatively pays the highest amount of money to the European Community
The Netherlands is THE country that takes most of Europe's refugees (from outside Europe, Africa etc.)
When you shoot a cop, you'll get 2 months imprisonment, if a cop shoots you, he'll get 10 years imprisonment.

But I like it over here, people are quite tolerat, very liberal and there's not much difference between the rich and the poor.. (and ofcourse, we have judges and not some stupid jury that gives 3 million us$ for a cup of coffee that's too hot )

Odd what interest a little post can bring eh?

btw -

<< if you earn a decent living you pay 60% to the government >>

DSMARTY, You mean to tell me you TOLERATE that?

Over here in the colonies, we overthrow the government when it gets too out of hand.
Come to think of it, it's gotten pretty big for its britches. Governments never seem to figure out that they exist by the consent of the "governed" - not the other way around.

I'm guessing tax revolt would be close at hand had the election gone the way that some would have liked to have seen it go. I always figured there was something a little odd about anyone who LIKES taxes.

They really do need to come up with some new labels. "Liberal" sounds like a good thing - liberal *sounds* tolerant, understanding, and easy-going. Unfortunately, at least over here it means heavy-handed big-brother government, higher taxes, more intrusive government, fewer individual rights...

"Many dutchmen think americans are fat and sue everybody for nothing."

I take it you've been to one of our Wal Marts or Flea Markets! If you want a real laugh check out any "Professional Wresting" program. I'm so proud to be an American!

Okay, okay, speaking of sue-happy Americans, here's a good one... What do you call 100,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? Give up? The answer is, a good start! No offense to the "good" lawyers who may be lurking in this forum! :Q

Liberal over here = liberal with a little socialism
We don't have a big-brother government and the individual rights are good (At least we can express ourselves and is censorship forbidden by law!!!)

The taxes are something like this:
If you earn <15.000 us$ --> 38%
If you earn <20.000 us$ --> 42%
If you earn <25.000 us$ --> 50%
If you earn >30.000 us$ --> 60%

Most people (I Guess) are in 50% and 60% category

Point 13 is incorrect btw, call me a pacifist and I'll kill you. Although I am peacefull.

Point 29 is about birthdays of the elderly, this is wat a Dutch birthday for ppl my age looks like:

22:00 Start
22:15 coffee and "gebak"
22:30 >> 03:00 Drinking lots of beer (and other alcohol-containing drink) and chatting, eating chips etc.
03:00 >> 05:00 the die-hards stay to get REALLY drunk
07:00 end of party

DSmarty, you're (partially) wrong on one point though.. we don't take in the most refugees in if you look at pure numbers. Germany takes in the most in total, about 5 times as much as Holland. Percentage wise we do however.

And I goot this from an American friend of mine..

Let's see if I understand how America works lately . . .

If a woman burns her thighs on the hot coffee she was
holding in her lap while driving, she blames the restaurant.

If your teen-age son kills himself, you blame the rock 'n' roll
music or musician he liked.

If you smoke three packs a day for 40 years and die of lung
cancer, your family blames the tobacco company.

If your daughter gets pregnant by the football captain you
blame the school for poor sex education.

If your neighbor crashes into a tree while driving home drunk,
you blame the bartender.

If your cousin gets AIDS because the needle he used to
shoot up with heroin was dirty, you blame the government
for not providing clean ones.

If your grandchildren are brats without manners, you
blame television.

If your friend is shot by a deranged madman, you blame
the gun manufacturer.

And if a crazed person breaks into the cockpit and tries
to kill the pilots at 35,000 feet, and the passengers kill
him instead, the mother of the deceased blames the airline.

I must have lived too long to understand the world as it
is anymore. So if I die while my old, wrinkled ass is
parked in front of this computer, I want you to blame
Bill Gates, OK?

Ok, being from Amsterdam I have to complain about some things: :Q
1. let's be specific, you don't want foreigners to drink Grolsch and believe we call that beer, only Heineken is quality.
2. We like to be best in everything (soccer, football, formula-1, rc5, you name it, we're best)
3. you forgot to menation we charge people for being in such a touristic traffic jam, starting next year.
4. you're paying too much, it's being changed to 52 % max (but the same keeps coming in thanks to number 3).
5. DanC is not correct to menation there are other cities, tehre are not, Only Amsterdam is worth mentioning and visiting, the rest is just plains.
6 extra point, haven't seen that before: when a dutchman, especially when from Amsterdam doesn't complain, call a medic and start CPR.

Oh so true, so true...

Looks like we now understand each other perfectly.

Now for the good things.

You DO have a darned fine luxury cruise line - Holland America. I guess it should actually be Nederland America eh?

We spent a glorious week enjoying fine Dutch hospitality. Captain and crew were very tolerant of us "ignorant Americans".

Last year I was sitting in a train to Amsterdam and a group of 10-15 american soldiers were sitting in the same department of the train as I did. After a while one of the soldiers comes in our department and start shouting really exited to his friends that in another department of the train there are all dutch girls sitting. Then he shouts: "and they all have a good body and not the size of their girls!!!"

Some colleagues of mine told me an American girl is allready very tall when she is 1.75 meter. In Holland that is not very tall for a girl because dutch people are among the tallest people in the world.

We need to be that tall so when the dikes break we can still keep our head above the water

I'm not an expert on the Netherlands but, I can think of examples for almost all of those statements. Also, Dutch beer is goat piss. Their coffee, OTOH, is excellent.

our coffee is how coffee is meant to be . The coffee I get served in the US is usually so weak I have to order an American double espresso and still fail to wake up (while, on the other hand, a double espresso anywhere in rural Italy makes me wake up for the next 72 hours, which is not a good thing )
