The hyperosmolatity of honey (due to the fact that it is almost completely concentrated sugar) makes it impossible for any living microorganism to live in it. If they try water is immediately leached from their cell body and they shrivel and die.

There are bacteria that have developed ways of living in other hyperosmotic environments; however, there has yet to be one that can in honey. Maybe one day there will and than honey won't be permanently sterile.

A burger should have no property that should make it impervious to decay. It defies biology.

I marvel at how McDonalds has infiltrated our entire world. A hamburger here tastes exactly the same in China or some around the world place.

It's cloned.

Makes you wonder doesn't it?
Uh no, it doesn't. I don't give a fuck, and it's supposed to taste the same. In fact I'm gonna get some McDonald's for lunch today, mmmm mmmm good.

The food I'm eating now is packed with egregious, insidious chemicals like dihydrogen monoxide, sodium chloride, and eicosapentaenoic acid. Pray for me. That web page is full of ridiculous hippy dogma.

Salt.

The preservative that is centuries old.

The meat makes somewhat sense if you look at it from a salt curing stance. It is the reason salt has been used for centuries to preserve stuff for long term use. Salt works by making a hyperosmotic environment that would cause the any microorganisms to shrivel.

What defies logic is the bread. WTF keeps molds and bacteria from breaking it down? I have no idea.

They more important question is why they add preservatives in such high concentrations?

LOL, I'm eating a McD's double quarter pounder w/o cheese right now...MMMM Besides, what the fuck is this picture supposed to prove? The damn thing is eaten and processed within 12 hours like any other food. Unless you're eating all natural stuff all the time with no preservatives, I don't see what the bid deal is.

That being said, I prefer an Arbys roast beef sandwich over McDs... it's just been so long since I had a juicy burger

A statement of fact for me... I don't feel any worse when I eat fast food than I do when eating regular / healthy food. I'm 30 now and I fully expected to, but I still don't. Maybe one day, but until then, I love me some good tasting stuff. Healthy food does not compare.

People take their chances with smoking and drinking... so by not doing those things, I can afford to eat some badass fast food. Rate my defense.

I totally agree.

The stupid thing about "Super Size Me" is that he choked down every last bit of food regardless of if he were hungry and "Super Sized" everything when asked. If you show a little restraint, it shouldn't be horrible for you.

The worst thing about the food is the high sodium content.

I'd trust this lady a little more if she also had a home-made burger that she kept in the same type of container since 1996.

This is called contradiction. First you claim to have no idea how they are preserving their product, then you make an assertion that they infuse the product with a particularly high concentration of preservative. Before you go on a crusade maybe you should get a handle on some actual fact instead of going on an emotional knee-jerk seizure.

I'm about as far from a fast food hater as you can get, but I don't completely agree. If you are used to having a fairly balanced diet that includes the proper amount of fiber and then go on a nothing but fast food binge of burgers and fries for a few days you body is not going to be happy. Outside of a Chipotle burrito and a few other select items fast food just isn't fiber rich. I get bloated and miserable feeling on some vacations/road trips for work if I don't eat balanced.

But if that's all you eat anyway, your body probably won't care.

No. It is called two questions one being more important. I have no idea what type of preservative could possibly hold off bread mold for 12 years. I also have no idea why McD's would add this and other preservatives in such high levels that it can keep it around for 12 years.

Two Questions. Both don't make sense.

List, please?

1/3 pound peppercorn crusted burger with thick sliced applewood bacon and a very mature red leicester on a homemade poppy seed bun with lettuce and homegrown tomato and homemade mayo.

That probably tastes better, but the nutritional value is almost definitely equivalent.

This would have a significantly different combination of vitamins and minerals. Hence different nutritional value.

Equivalent to what?

And it may be better tasting to you, but it doesn't sound very appealing to me.

/me is eating a double cheeseburger right now

<edit>
Yes, that would have a *different* nutritional value, but what about it would make it better overall?

Go ahead continue to defend a multi-million dollar corporation that doesn't give a damn about you or your health.

I guess my point is I don't see the point in their methods. They must do some funky science and add a great deal of chemicals to keep it from rotting.

Want some proof? Go bake some bread, cook some ground beef, and put it on your counter for a week or two.

Indeed, presuming that it would increase costs to add preservatives, it wouldn't make financial sense for them to be added to a product that's not intended to be around very long.
