So I'll try to be short but forgive me in advance, I'm sick & cranky.......

Toyota.....I don't care about the mustard and the nachos. I don't care about running over triggers with ANY car to make a splash pattern neon light show before the after party at the current rave celebrating your new Corolla. (plastic, already mechanically outdated POS)

Honda.....I don't care about you buying somebody $500 worth of groceries. Or new furniture. Or whatever other crap your "helpful Honda dealers in the blue shirts" can BUY someone. That has not ONE F#$%ing THING TO DO WITH YOUR CARS!!! I give a #@#$% about a QUALITY CAR!!

I realize this is old hat to them. They are in the business of making cheap, plastic, snap, crackle, pop cars with a decent engine & transmission and then loading them up with $1 chinese electronics and calling them GREAT, NEW & LOADED!!!

I'm not doing donuts or loop da loops or drifting or with my Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. I'm going to F@#$%@^%ing WORK for crying out loud. And when I'm on my way home after a stressful day I don't want to hear:

- my door humm for the uninsulated thin steel skin resonating
- nor the entire plastic interior buzzing, snapping, crackling & popping
- nor my sunroof pop, side view mirrors whistle
- or earn a rug burn on my elbow from the cheap-@$$ canvas/nylon/polyester (aka PLASTIC) seat covers you're putting on my seats these days!!

Make me a better @#$%@$#%ing CAR!!

Honda had bad trannys in their cars for quite a while in the 2000s.

Econoboxes are not made for ride comfort. Like it or not, you have to step up to an upscale marque like Buick, Lexus, etc.

Somehow, the data seems to indicate that most Toyota parts for Camrys are made in the USA, but they are still cheap.

Your expert opinion and marketing strategy matters. They all should be fire and replaced by you.

I'm fairly pleased with my Camry Hybrid. It is quiet, comfortable, smooth and reliable. I have almost 40,000 trouble free miles on it already. Haven't had a single issue with it.

Could the interior be a little more upscale? Sure, I guess... but it isn't a Lexus, nor is it trying to be.

I think the OP has a point in the sense that GM, Chrysler and Ford are offering much more car for the same money.

Maybe if you ignore how often things will fail and need to be replaced you can say that.

The Malibu Hybrid gets 25mpg city. My Camry Hybrid gets 41mpg city.

Chrysler doesn't make a vehicle that gets better than 23mpg city.

I like the Ford Fusion Hybrid, but unfortunately, you have to buy them from Ford dealerships... it will be a cold day in hell when I step foot in one of their crappy dealerships again.

Sitting in everything Chrysler makes now makes you wonder WTF they were doing for the past few years. Their interior quality is best of the big 3 now I would say. the new Cherokee and 200 have beautiful insides. Compared to the hard tinny plastic feeling of the Japanese makes its kinda obvious which feels better. They still are lacking in the powertrain dept other than the V6 V8 paired to 8 or 9 speed. They need a better 4 cyl lineup, dunno why that is taking so long with Fiat though.

Toyota makes an amazing washing machine on wheels. I had a rental Prius for amonth and drove it from FL to Wash DC and back. Its loud, its terrible in winds, its slow, it handles terribly, its not particularly comfortable but goddamn did it good mileage. I drove the living fuck out of it and still got like 45 mpg. If I had a long commute I wouldnt hesitate to drive one. There is no point me driving my 335i or X1 in traffic when i'm half awake. Its much more economical to have a beater commuter for that and a nice car for everything else.

But I will agree. Ford dealers in general are terrible. I tried to buy a Fusion for my mom and was so turned off I walked out. She loves her Passat now.

The Camry is a much better car than the Prius IMO. It is quieter and more comfortable than the Prius but you really don't take too much of a mileage hit.

Malibu was only a mild hybrid, so not really a fair comparison.

Sounds like you're driving a GM car with the badges swapped out for Honda/Toyota badges.

Malibu was only a mild hybrid, so not really a fair comparison.

A 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid with 255HP is also a mild hybrid and got 25 mpg city a decade ago, so that's not really an excuse.

Unfortunately I dislike Honda and Toyota dealers to similar degrees. They are all pushy as heck and act is if they're doing you a favor by selling you a car.

Granted I have a small sample size but Subaru has treated me well as did GMC. Why is it so hard to be polite and have a pleasant demeanor?

And the IMA option was very expensive...

IMO the IMA option was a $2-3,000 option on top of a 2005 V6 Accord, and the total price was still under 30 grand. I don't think the Accord Hybrid cost significantly more than a loaded Camry back in the day.

However, my point was that if Honda could make a 255hp V6 "mild hybrid" which achieved 25 city mpg a decade ago, it is pretty sad that a recent Malibu Hybrid cannot exceed those numbers with a much weaker 4-cylinder engine.

Apples and oranges. 2005 was ages ago as far as emissions and technology.

Note the lower mileage of the 2006 Accord Hybrid.

Note that in 2007 the mileage recovered a little.

Cars seem cheaper to me because plastics and metals used in them are lighter and lighter. I think all these MPG regulations are making manufacturers look at reducing weight and it's effecting the quality of everything that goes into them.

I've found that our Toyota 4Runner gets dings in the body panels a lot easier than any other vehicle we own. A few years old and you can tell it's been beaten up in parking lots. I think my 12 year old Buick has fewer dings and it's been pelted with hail/acorns over the years. Granted, the 4Runner doesn't look bad, but it's obvious they cut corners there.

The radio controls and inside plastics feel really cheap....like the Hyundai models I test drove did. I feel like Honda has a nicer interior and yeah, that Buick convertible looks nice. I'm sure some old folks are going to need to change their depends when they see those on the lot at the dealership next year.
