We all know that antibiotics, if taken too often, can become ineffective due to the body adapting and building up a tolerance to them. I have a theory that common, everyday products can also have this type of effect on the human body. One such product is common skin moisturizing cream.

You get all these girls that love the way it smells, so they rub their hands daily with it. Not necessarily because their skin is dry. Over time, the skin realizes that there's enough moisture in the skin, and slows down the body's natural processes to make sure it's healthy... thus causing an almost dependancy on skin care products.

Am I nuts?

It wouldn't surprise me at all. Chapstick can do the same thing to your lips -- I never use the stuff and my lips get chapped every once in awhile, whereas my GF's lips get chapped regularly if she stops using it.

I'm not a doctor, but human skin do dry by cleaning products, and people that work with their hands.

It's established that this happens with almost anything you add to your body. Visine, chapstick, lotion, the scary ones are the ones that act on the brain, like antidepressants and things that screw with your seratonin level. You'll have a withdrawal period after regular use of anything that alters the body's natural processes.

Skincare products don't alter the body's natural processes, so I believe that would be a negative on the subject.

Well, my theory is that they DO alter the skin's natural ability to moisturize itself.
