Seems to be pretty good! Both fans run @ 25dba (2200RPM) so it will be very quiet. I might have to get one of these when I buy my new aluminum case...

<< is it AMD approved? >>

According to Newegg it is designed for P4/K7 motherboards so I'll assume that yes, it's approved. I believe it's a brand new item in their inventory, so there are no feedbacks available yet.

Ok, did little more research on AMD compatibilty. First of, there is no mentioning of Raidmax brand on AMD's official website (recommended power supply's section), couldn't find anything when searching by model number either (PM-S400AB). HOWEVER! According to Newegg, they sell another model PM-S400 which looks like "plain vanilla" power supply and it's explicitly stated as AMD approved. What's the difference between PM-S400 and PM-S400AB? My buest guess it stands for Aluminum Blue. So if that's accurate, I am fairly sure that it will be 100% AMD compatible.

Hope this helps

I don't want to rain on anyones parade but you will notice a distince lack of mention of AMD approval. The P4/K7 that is mentioned does not say "approved". Not only that, it is NOT listed on the AMD Recommended PS page. However, that being said, it probably will work OK for most AMD systems. If you are into "eye candy" and an occasional roll of the dice, this might be a nice addition.

Awesome.. just what i was looking for =)

on a side note..
AMD doesn't make the motherboards or even the chipsets that most of us use. So who cares if they approve a power supply or not, its the mobo manufacture I would be looking to to see if it would work.

I think these are Leadmad LP-6100d based psu's See Here.. Look for the raidmax psu's. The model #'s are the same as here. The psu's look the same, without the anodizing.
Old review here.. Good Luck!

For that much money you want to get at least AMD approved PS. Minimum and then some. Aluminum is nice but what is the point of painting power supply? To make it flammable?

i don't even know where to start on that one. but safe be said, you get what you pay for. 400w power supply for $68 is a little low, but ok (hell, i got my antec 400w for $50). but there's a very good reason amd publishes that list, and it isn't to make a few bucks on the side.

Geesh, so much misinformation, it is hard to know where to start.

First, blue anodizing does not make a drive more or less flammable. Look up what anodizing is on google learn yourself some science.

Second, AMD makes the approved list because of the incredible mess that happened when they introduced the athlon and people's power supplies could not power the system, even many that were rated >350. The advertised wattage is only one componenet determining the quality of the output and therefore AMD published their own little list to try and get some information to the consumers. The P4 suffered thsi same problem but to a lesser degree mainly because AMD had already taken the brunt of the bad publicity.

I think this is a great price on a sweet looking drive, but I agree that you get what you pay for and this company would likely be sure to include AMD approved on the label if it passed muster. I wish enermax anodized their power supplies.

Dyes are used to introduced the color, anodizing won't make blue color surface.
Dyes are generally flammable, not necessarily all. That is the reason why decent power supplies don't have pink and blue over them. Because anodizing and natural metalic colors cannot come up that way. Dyeing is a foolish thing to do and of course it is done only for marketing purpose.
If you want to lecture something first learn yourself. You might want to try with google first yourself.

By the way, 350W Enermax is less priced than this aluminum thing and you bet your ass that is much better power supply.
When somebody makes a power supply blue and then puts a translucent fan on it, common sense tells you where the most of money went.
The good thing here is aluminum though. It will conduct the heat better and it weights less. I am not sure $68 makes any sense here. Once again $10 less Enermax 350W will be very, very reliable. I got myself Heroichi 350W which is even cheaper and almost equally good. When you want to spend $70 on power supply go for a good one not transparrent and colored nonsense.

Cool color! I would buy a flat panel if it came in that color. I keep my box inside a cabinet under the desk with 2" insulated foam. Can't stand the noise of 1.3 AXIA+TI-V77, 8K7A+, GTS-V, Crucial256ECC2100 running on X'tremly P!ssed Professional, all running STOCK!

he he.. putie scene is starting to look like the street racing scene. Just the other day saw a tachometer for putie based on load.
then there was deal posting earlier for a "rear view mirror" that shows who's creeping up behind you.
wait... Then there's Water cooling

some day... I predict there'll be accelerator pedals that varies the amount of OVERCLOCKING, or some sorta gears(short throw, aluminum, logo'ed AND expensive) that will control the puter performance IDLE, webbing, Turbo (~notebooks), then dual action liquid bearing aluminum+fibre glass windshield wipers.... that will keep the screen....sparkling ..... & convertible desktop that folds ... into a laptop... ..*fades ....*

Kool stuff. Keep the computing scene interesting.

This blue raidmax PS looks very similair to this aluminum one over at Directron , (rebadged?) seems like the same manufacturer, they make a gold, silver and blue - all in different power ratings. The reviews aren't very good on them though. I don't know if this is the same company though, would like to know also. I've been eyeing these ps for a while now.
