John, I've read most of the articles in this thread and I am impressed. I am 20 years old (21 in October) and am engaged to be married. The past two years, my fiancee and I have become very comfortable with each and have become equally complacent and neglectful with our diets/bodies. I am 6'1" and have gone from a very lean/slightly muscular (wrestled in high school) 175 lbs to a very unhealthy/fat 220 lbs. My arms are still defined/muscular but I have acquired a large ass / midsection and my face looks a lot different than it did @ 175 lbs.

I have a personal web server now and I am going to try to attempt a diet similar to yours. My problem is my caloric intake. I went from 175 to 220 in about a year and have held that weight for a year now. I'm going to try to take pictures, but I don't have a tri-pod and my digital camera (Minolta Dimage 2330) is kind of old and I don't even know if it has a timer.

I am on a tight budget and I'd like to do this without any supplements (I have multi-vitamins and other things). And about your HIIT..is this on a bike or jogging/running?

I'm not sure what to do.
My mother has always wanted to have slightly chubby kids. She's english and they seem to think it's healthy. She is visiting tomorrow and I've dropped about 20-25 pounds since she last saw me (as light as I was in highschool) and I expect various irritating questions and comments but I'll ignore them as I did all those years ago. Unless you're actually sick just do what you want. People will get tired of nagging you. My bodyfat is still over 10% so I'm hardly starving to death.

Afterall do you really think it's right to take criticism from people who are overweight and unfit themselves? If they are undoubtedly unhappy with their body why would you listen to their criticisms of yours?

That doesn't really undermine my point though. I like Porsches but if you find a mass murder who shares my view it doesn't mean I'm a mass murderer.

My point is I don't tell others "you've put on too much weight - stop it!" so they have no need to tell me I've lost too much weight - unless they think there is a health concern. No doctor is going to say I need to gain weight, so what's the big deal?

In six months you can easily undergo that transformation....my friend did that in about 6-8 months -- from 6' 250 lbs to 185 lbs and 9% body fat.

I have been under 7% body fat at several periods in my life although I'm about 12% right now. I can loose 10 lbs of body fat from say 18 to 12% body fat in 2-3 weeks no problem. Going from 12 to 8 takes a little longer but not too much.

That guys program works great...I used a very similiar program.

Get fit people!! I'm currently moving to Pitt. but after I move I'm going to get back down to 8% BF and get my six-pack chiseled again.

Hey man, thanks very much. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. I think it's great that you and your fiancée are going to get back in shape, you'll both be glad that you did. The benefits are numerous. I highly recommend doing the picture thing and posting them on the web, even if it's just for your family and trusted friends. Doing so will be a huge source of motivation. That's how I started, but as I progressed I started posting my site publicly. Now the fitness part of my web site is getting 40,000+ hits a day, and I get over 100 fitness-related emails every week. At this point I'm actually afraid to quit working out.

You don't need any supplements to reach your goals. The only thing I'd suggest is Whey protein powder, which is more of a food than a supplement anyway. Whey protein powder is the perfect way to get inexpensive, high quality, quickly absorbed protein into your system post-workout. It will actually wind up saving you money (foods high in protein tend to be the most expensive foods). Check out my FAQ for more information and links to online stores if you are interested.

For my cardio, I use the stationary bike and the stair climber. Have a look at my training page for information about my cardio, HIIT and weight training workouts. You might want to use those as a jumping off point, but don't be afraid to experiment and see what works best for you. Good luck!

Anyone else have trouble getting in?

My site was up, but planned circuit maintenance on the DS3 where my DNS servers are located occurred this morning from 1:00 AM until 2:00 AM. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The real question is, why aren't you running a caching DNS server on your home network? I thought this was a geek forum?
