Why not just WAIT a few days when we'll get some REAL reviews from web sites we TRUST like AT?

LukFilm yep Well i have a feeling what i expected could happen with the ATi 9700 pro. It could have pretty bad or ok drivers. I don't want it to happen at all.

Parhelia: 16xFAA + 2x AF

R9700: 6xMS + 16x AF

So, what was it that Anand reviewed a few weeks ago? What is it that Carmack endorsed? All vaporware?

Its more people trying to slate the Radeon 9700 PRO as fast as humanly possible to protect their investment in their GeForce 4 4600Ti's.

considering that ATI's drivers have improved so much since the release of catalyst and other updates making fun of them is getting a little old. and i agree with everybody else that we should wait to get a review form a reputable source like anand. and since the article AT did earlier with a preproduction 9700 and the results were over 40% faster than the ti4600 i somehow doubt the reliabilty of this site.

40% faster than the GF4 ti 4600 is not that many more frame rates. Percents can make a new video card look a lot faster than it really is.
Even 250 to 300% is not that much faster.

I think most of us realise what a percentage difference is in relation to fps.

And just to tackle you on that, yes if 20fps is 100%, then 30fps is only 150% of that, but also, if 60fps is 100%, then 150% of that is 90fps, so really I cant see why you are going on about these percentages somehow being a 'con'. I dont know about anyone else, but I can play 30fps on RtCW (I used to), and 45fps (which I get now, and is only 150% the performance) seems a billion times better to me when I'm playing.

i care about the percentage increases heres why

its the top dog for a reason because of the percentages it pushes other card makers to beat those same percentages
it also means a new dog is on the porch and an old comfortable dog must fight to regain its crown since i game this means my future purchases are going to be even better as the competition grows
the best point to me is that sure its only 10 frames better but those framerates are ones i can use and use now oh and show me any other card in this comparison that can do that right now
and i truly look forward to seeing the retail benches especially if the benches are as dramatic as all the real sites are saying>they sure didn't spout off about other cards near maturity as incredible or 200% more framerates.

so thanks for your take on the technology guys but i think i'll get my advice from the experts if you don't mind

Not to put down that site, but that is most likely bending the numbers to make one product look better than the other. Quincux=2X FSAA, and where as the R9700 is 6X AA!!!!!:Q I'll add, the 9700 didn't do that bad

Indeed, some Quake 3 look rough for the 9700, but look at AquaMark... I think that is one thing that truly demonstrates the power of the 9700, being a DirectX 8 benchmark and all. 49 vs. 14? 33 vs. 9? 24 vs. 6? (All with AA and AF, with resolutions starting with 1024x768, then 1280x1024, then 1600x1200) And the Geforce4 is supposed to be a good DX8 card? All things considered, I think the 9700 will be one hell of a seller when real, taxing on the video card DirectX8 and 9 games come out. But then again, there have been no official specs or numbers on the NV30, just rumors.

some people need to get over the fact that the GF4 is not top dog anymore

Thats like saying you are wasting your money by buying a GF4 because it cant do 1600x1200 w 4xFSAA and AF and does not trounce the GF3/ R8500 by 500% in every benchmark

Puh-lease

IMO the jump from GF3 to GF4 was not that big at all but I dont imply everyone that bought a GF4 is an idiot

and those nit picking at the price i remember Ti4600's being well over $400 just 6 months ago (Fkloster paid 450+ for his)

ATI on top now and just accept it

dude, imtim83, you seem to have it in for the 9700 in the last few posts/threads you have been involved in, lol.

And like Dean said, 6xFSAA and 16xAF while making the gf4 only do quincuxx and 8xAF is hardly fair.

You can't really base your judgements on just one site's reviews, especially when the site is not exactly "up there" in terms of reliability.

From what I've seen Chip.de is a rather highly respected german tech site.
That said, the anisotropic filtering, FSAA tests were hardly fairly compared.

I find it mildly perturbing Chip.de found a few driver issues with the R9700. They've made some impressive strides with the R8500 since launch, I hope they don't start to fall into their old habits again.
Still, this is pre-release so some bugs are to be expected.
