As I type this, I am number 479 in a queue. This is not to download a game demo...no...rather, it's to download goddamn Soundblaster Live! Value drivers!!!!!!!!!

Creative really pissed me off with this one.

Neither is their product.

Exactly my point. It's not like I'm at FilePlanet downloading the latest multiplayer demo free of charge. I had to pay for the fvcking product and that should cover my ability to download drivers.

Especially when the ones that are included in the package (if any at all) are years old.

This is precisely why I don't have a Creative card anymore.

So buying a product should entitle you to instant support/drivers?

Should companies hire one technical support agent for each item they ship? After all, it wouldn't be fair for you to have to wait your turn to talk to someone.

There has to be a balance between service level and cost, since costs will be passed on to the end user.

Ahh, Creative Labs. For this exact reason, I regret buying my Audigy card, and will avoid their products in the future.

You are right, I pay for it when I buy the product.

But did you pay enough to demand instant access to high-speed downloads?

Well, at least creative provides full driver versions. Unlike the antichrist incarnate HP who gets lazy and just posts updates that are useless without the original install disk.

I just had to reinstall XP and I'm getting the latest drivers. It's not really an update or anything. In fact, it's for my SB Live! Value and it's not even dated this year.

I Support a lot of HP printers, scanners and multifunctions at work over the summer. Never saw or even heard of this.

Ah, feels nice to be Creative Labs free.

My system used to be nearly all CL. Sound, video, CD, CD Burner, modem.

The point is moot is this case, they aren't providing high-speed downloads.

I've run into it multiple times on there CD products - internal and especially USB external CDRW drives.

All they post is updates to the devices. If you loose the floppy disk that came with the drives you are hosed because the updates don't work without the original drivers in place. God forbid you loose the original software and move the drive to a new machine.

You obviously don't get it, otherwise you wouldn't have said that.

Should the company provide a product that WORKS? that would be the hardware AND software (drivers)?

If it was a perfect world, no driver updates would be needed, the product would already work as it should, but as it is not... at least you should be entitled to free and instantaneous updates when the product provided does not work..

He is downloading driver updates for an operating system which did not exist when the product was originally released.

How is it surprising that a driver update would be necessary?

Right here

I'm currently in line for the download as well, I want to see how fast it is for myself.

Also, consider this...

400 people * 52 MB = 20,800 MB.

That kind of bandwidth costs serious money.

Internet services are used to replace or supplement tech support staff. No one expects to have their own personal tech support person, just as no one expects to be 500th in line to wait for a service that saves the company money. Would they rather I call in and order a CD from them? How else do they plan on distributing new, advanced drivers?

Face it, Creative has some of the poorest customer service in the business and it shows.
