Starbucks makes, IMO, some of the WORST coffee on the face of the planet. Nearly all their blends lack body and character, have too much acidity, and a horrible aftertaste. They take crap coffee, mark up the price, and stick their name on it to sell it.

But for $5 a pound, I'll drink it.

has anyone tried zibana
their coffee is about $10, free shipping.
and one free lb with any order over $10.

one good deal is 2 lbs of coffee and a mug for $18,
which become 3 lbs with the free one.

I agree, Zibana is good. They also have awesome chocolate and cookie treats. They are little guys here in Seattle, not that way overprice Starbucks corp.

On Starbucks sucking.. yep...
You guys don't get it... Starbucks intends to burn their coffee... when they started, it gave their coffee a unique flavor that no other brand had... then customers get "used to it" and once you get used to a certain flavor, you want it. On principal, no other brand will burn it and make it taste like that crap. So they have "trained" their customers to like their crap. Believe me, even in Seattle where there are hundreds of other options on every corner, there is a crowd that will only go to Starbucks.

Then Starbucks sells about 50 blends, and tell you "well, see most people just LIKE our 'main blend', try this..." -- of course, you will like the other blends as they aren't burnt. So they try to please all crowds, while making sure that 90% of the time you get the burnt stuff that only they sell Smart thinking on their part.

ROFL Amnesiac. I totally agree with you. About the only thing redeeming about Starbucks is their frappucino's (then again any blended mocha is damned good). But for 5 bones, I'm there.

Char-bucks... bllleeeecccchhhhhhhh! Just lick the inside of your gas grill for the same flavor. Just my opinion, I know some folks actually like the stuff.

Here's a recommendation: Porto Rico Importing Co. - they have great coffee, IMHO, and their prices are very good. Our "Koffee Klub" at work orders almost exclusively from them. Check out their weekly specials - they have a blend on sale for $3.99/lb.! If you like the dark (but not burnt) stuff like I do, try the French Italian Espresso, the French Mocha and Java Blend, and the French Kenya Peaberry. Also, the American/City Roast Venezuelan Tachira is quite good. Of course, your taste will vary from mine.

If you're in NY, visit them on Bleecker Street.

Enjoy the Buzzzzzzzzzzz!

You could also try the "Bean Collection" on Madison (1000?) in Seattle.

Best coffee I've had since arriving in the 'states.

Now that I'm over on the East coast I seriously miss that place...

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks for Zibana link! I got the 2lbs with free cup and free pound. Then I went back and got the $12.95 grinder (this coffee isn't pre-ground, is it?). This should qualify me for another free pound.

Anyone know how long coffee stays fresh? 4 pounds will last me a few months.

ARghh, its out!

oh a question, i'm new at this coffee thing. Don'y you actually get more coffee in a bag if its ground? SEems like it would take up less space right? I've seen supermarkets where u can fill up those slim bags with coffee. They don't seem to weigh them at checkout, so woulnd't it be better to grind it so u could get more in the bag? Or is the reason to buy less in whole bean form to retain freshness longer?

I just got a coffee maker so i'm a tad confused. i bought some safeway coffee that i ground with their machine, didn't bother looking at checkout though.. seems to be flat rate per bag. How long does this stuff stay fresh?

Zucchini, they weigh it. At Safeway and everywhere else. It's all sold per weight, watch carefully next time they will sit it on their scale just long enough to register it in their checkout computer.
I only go through something between 5 and 8 pounds a month myself usually so I get mine mostly at Costco.
Keeping it in the bean form until brewing is best, if you are a purist then you buy your own roaster and buy the coffee beans green. Fresh roasted is the yummy, but it's a lot more trouble than buying it already roasted and ready to grind. Grinding only takes a few seconds so I don't view that as inconvenient.
Thanks for the links above guys, I'll be checking some of those out. Living in the Northwest I have tried quite a few coffees. Traveling around the country I've tried a few more. Jamaica Blue Mountain was good when I bought a few pounds of it in southern Florida and pure kona while I was in Maui was also very nice. Ahhh.. memorable coffee moments...

Wiz,

Thanks for the help, guess its time for me to invest in a coffee grinder and yea, ppl have been telling me to get my coffee at costco, hope their selection is good. The coffee is just for me, so i only got a 4 cup coffee maker.. kind of sad Its just funny how much coffee bean grounds it takes to make a @%# cup of coffee, it almost seems wasteful compared to tea etc anyone run their grounds through twice?

any harm in grinding coffee into super fine expresso level? i saw that setting at the supermarket, wasn't sure if i had the right machine for that so i went a notch below

yea so far i've tried irish creme, and hazel nut something(bad memory)

Starbucks cheap coffee Nolonger Availabe!!!!!!!!!

It musta BEAN popular w/ the crowd. Stuff's sold out now.
I see there are some coffee connoisseurs around here.

Personally, my favorite way to make coffee is using a French Press. One can be had quite cheaply for around $20 from Amazon. I found it gives the richest/thickest brew, not necessarily w/o after taste.

When I have more time/patience to enjoy an expresso, I'd let it go thru the trouble of doin it using my expresso machine. For daily intake tho, I find that expresso is simply too thick and too tiny for my taste.

I don't believe in coffee makers even expensive varities w/ carafes and such, therefore my wife mostly uses them for making tea.

The best combination I found is to make coffee using expresso, then dilute to a desired coffee strength. I know, expresso aficionado's would kill themselves when they hear this. It's gotta be the shweetest, most flavorful cupppa!!!

It must be where I live... at least here in OKie MOO MOO Land (I love it!), there are no "good coffee joints" except "CHAAARED BUX":Q as Shredfest
called it. So compared to all those widely available coffees which I call tastes-like-cow-piss-so-I-am-told from QuickTrips and Coorporate offices, Charbucks coffee is way better, just IMHO.
