I will be buying a Corsair 400R cabinet for my new system, but I just want to know whether the Noctua DH-15S (http://www.primeabgb.com/online-price-reviews-india/noctua-d15s-nh-d15s-d-style-cpu-cooler-2/) cooler will fit in this cabinet or not. Also, will that cooler be an overkill? I mean I won't be overclocking my 6700k any time soon, but when I do will a cooler, like the CM Hyper 212X might do the job, or should I stick with the Noctua? Don't want to spend much on cooler, so if you guys have any other suggestion within 5000 INR (65-70 USD) do tell.

Thanks in advance.

I just upgraded the old H100 I had to an h100i ver2. I'm now running about 42-45 Celcius per core @ 4.2 GHz (3.3 GHz is stock) in gaming conditions (haven't run Prime95 yet). Not only is running like a champ, it looks absolutely boss. (see sig rig)

My CPU is older than yours, but I cannot overstate how pleased I am with this little upgrade. Highly recommended. Think I may be able to push it to 4.5 GHz if I need to. Should buy me a few more years before I have to upgrade.

Thanks for your reply, but I wanted to avoid liquid coolers due to the worry of the leakage factor.

For the 400R
"Maximum CPU Cooler Height 175mm"

Height of NH-D15 without raised fan = 165mm + 8mm = 173mm <-- tight but it fits.

its a very tight fit keep note... like you have 2mm of room which is very small...

Id honestly recommend a wider case.

Could you please recommend me a case then? Which would fit that cooler and have decent enough space to spare? My budget is very strict, as mentioned in OP.

True, but he stated he was looking at the NH-D15S, which Noctua lists as 160mm tall. EDIT: It looks like Noctua's website is wrong. From reviews, they state with a fan it is 165mm tall.

That being said, the NH-D15S is completely overkill if you aren't heavily overclocking. It's heavy (1150g) and bulky. If you want a Noctua heatsink that will allow moderate overclocking if you decide to do it and is much lighter and smaller, look at the NH-U12S. It is 158mm tall and weighs 755g.

Thanks mate. That suggested cooler looks just like my current Hyper 212+ LOL. Thanks for the suggestion, will look into it. Had a feeling that the D15S might be an overkill. If liquids weren't a scary thing I would simply go for them, much less clutter, looks great, keeps the temp in control, but everything IF it runs fine and never leak.

When it comes to moderate overclocking, a good air-cooler and AIO coolers (liquid) get the same temps for the most part. If you are overclocking so high as to set a world record, then liquid is the way to go.

The downside to AIO coolers are noise, and as you already stated the potential for leaks. Like you I think AIO coolers looks 'cool', but they just aren't my thing. Noctua coolers are nice and quiet, and they will keep your CPU nice and cool.

Also, they come with one fan and with extra clips to use another fan on it. For the most part, a second fan is a waste. As you will see with the review I linked to, it's only 1-3c difference.

ahhh... i did not think there was a difference between the S and non S.
Thanks for the correction.

I also feel you should just change the heat sink to another one.
Personally i like heat sinks which blow air down to the board like the C series from Noctua. The NH-C14S for example.
