Being English I found out the other day that apparently the reason Americans refer to English as Limies (Not sure on the spelling) is due to the habit English sailors in the past taking large amounts of limes out to sea to prevent outbreaks of scurvy. With this in mind I went to my usual encyclopedia of knowledge (aka the pub) and asked the locals. Nobody even had the slightest clue where this expression came from .
