So do we have a French revolution where all of the ruling class in charge both Republican and Democrat get their head chopped?
So what you want is Anarchy?

the kind of democracy where we respect our electoral institutions even if we don't like the people in them?

For there to be a revolution; the government has to do something to piss off the majority of Americans who never vote, and are ignorant of pretty much everything beyond their own little world. The British did it with their insane taxation. I think in general you find among average citizens, a general dislike for the direction of the country, but they are generally happy in their own lives right now.
Did I miss the history lesson of the President that was overthrown??Originally posted by: Duddy
In the 1800's, if our President refused to end a war that cannot be won, then the citizens would overthrow him...literally.
Today, what kind of democracy are we if we can't overthrow ONE guy?

How about better government that looks out for the interests of the middle class instead of anarchy? Let's look at the performance of the U.S. government over the past couple decades:
National debt: Increasing.
Middle class jobs -- being sent to other countries or filled by foreigners on work visas (H-1B, L-1, etc.) or being taken by illegal aliens (ie, construction jobs) or being taken by a mass of legal immigrants. Many college-education-requiring knowledge-based jobs--the ones blue collar workers were supposed to train for--have been shipped overseas or filled by visa holders.
Population: Increasing at a third world rate of population growth. This strains the environment and raises the costs of real estate, making it more difficult for Americans to maintain a middle class lifestyle.
So, yeah, if I had to bet, I would bet that millions of Americans would love to throw all of the bums out and deport them to Mexico or lop their heads off. If you perceived that your country, formerly a middle class haven, was transforming into a third world country devoid of a healthy middle class, wouldn't you be pissed too?

Haves and have nots. The end.
I'm curious as to how you came to this opinion regarding the 1800s? James Polk took on Great Britain and Mexico simultaneously during a single term and would easily have won a second term if not for ill health and his pledge not to run again in any case.Originally posted by: Duddy
