There is no god, as soon as you realize this fact you begin to see that religon is no more than a pyramid scheme making alot of money.

Never been presented with a single compelling argument, nor have I experienced anything to sway me spiritually/through faith.

i just think that religion is made up for people to believe in something and make them feel like they are "protected" by god.

have you guys read inherit the wind? that is one hell of a book.

btw, im atheist. i believed in hindu when i was younger, but then i realized that one gets nothing out of it but the lords' "blessings", which i have yet to see.

i have nothing against christians/jesus/whomever, but i just dont really like it when people try to convert/preach it to other people.

Poeple who need the "fear of god" to act responsibly and know right from wrong scare the hoo-haa out of me. Do you really need to be told the rules of life by the church?

It means a lot of talking to one's self.

A) Why would you post this thread? It has both been done a million times, and is pure flamebait
B) How can you not understand that someone would not want to use blind faith? How is blind faith logical? Cuz mommy and some old dude who may or may not be a child molester told you so? Mommy also told you there was a tooth fairy and santa claus, that blind faith didn't work out too well, either.

I seek answers all the time. I simply see no more reason, or evidence, to believe in God than believing in Santa. Or the Tooth Fairy. It isn't that I actively go around disbelieving in God... I just don't think about it.

However, I have a hard time understanding the motive behind not searching for an answer by many. Please don't take this post the wrong way, I am not trying to offend nor convict anyone, I am just curious in knowing your thoughts.

From what I understand, an atheist believes there is no God and our existence is merely a coincidence that happened at some point a long time ago, is this correct? Also, do you feel it is logical to think that once our body dies, we cease to exist forever?

Again, I am not trying to offend anyone. I am just seeking these answers out of curiosity. I would greatly appreciate it if no one flamed another's religion, it would make the discussion go much smoother.

Thanks!

Hi Huberm!

You can simply call me an atheist, but I'm actually a "relative probabilistic agnostic" (I made that up)

Anyway I went to a christian school and was born as a Muslim, and I have a lot of Hindu friends and I also studied a little bit about Buddhism. After 20 years seeking the truth, I've found a conclusion that any hundreds of belief (all religions, satanism, saintology, ancient -isms, philosophy, agnostik, atheist, or ANY beliefs) has a probability to be right, or wrong... I just can't prove it yet, hence I couldn't believe anything 100% This doesn't only apply to belief, it also apllies to history, science, philosophy or any facts in this world (for example: how do you you US has ever landed to the moon...you'll just never know....Same goes for religion: How do you know God exist..? He/She/It might exist, or probably it does only exist in your mind...or maybe it exist but it looks like a pink elephant, or maybe God is only a student in another realm making a summer project: the universe...there's a million of possibilities...)

That's why I respect any kind of religion and idealism. But I don't want to be stuck by blind faith which causes Moslems to be fanatic, Chistian to be fanatic...etc. They make their own truth....
I would rather seek truth with an open mind....

Peace

I can not see Jesus, feel Jesus and know that he exist. The only evidence that prove Jesus existance is the Bible. And the Bible was written by man. From historical standpoint, Jesus did probably exist. But I don't think of him as son of god. He was a probably good insiprational speaker/doctor who travel across middle east to inspire/heal others.

I went to Catholic school for a good 8 years of my life. I've heard all the stories, yet none of them is convincing that this stuff is real. What is real is what put food in my stomache tomorrow. Not a man-made god.

As much as I would like to, I don't believe in fairy tales. Although I think the Bible is a very good book of fables.

As far as i'm concerned, there is something out there. But that something is not god, anything even remotely close to god would be way to complex for humans to comprehend. Ants might as well speculate about biophysics.

How does this affect my life? It doesn't really. I don't go out of my way to worship any god, but if something happens to me in life I accept it, and move on.

I don't believe in anything. I seek out the truth and when the truth isn't available, I look for guesses on it created from fact. Science provides this, religion does not. I realize that some people need more meaning to their lives than science can provide, which is why they seek out religion.

Really? They already lost me at Genesis 1.

I don't remember Jesus from Genesis, but they lost me with where Cain's wife came from, and it just gets muddier from there.

But Science, itself, can be a belief.

Science cant explain everything.
People hide behind the subject of science as if it justifys everything in the god damn universe.

The same goes for people who dont believe in faith/god but take everything from the almighty therapist as if its straight from the bible itself.

Because I don't need any bs manmade belief to guide me through a successful life. Because I lead myself through rationale and reason. Because religious beliefs have never made any sense to me. Because I don't want to look like a freak, which is the impression I get from most religious people.

I could go on and on.

Science - requires proof
Religion - requires faith

Some people can live life believing in something with no proof. They're the same people who in my book are called "suckers". In sales, I love those people. In normal conversation I can't stand them.
