krell, jmlabs, martin logan, dynaudio, boulder, tons more

mark levinson was in that list until they started putting the audio systems in lexus....that just ruined it for me...i couldn't pay 30k for a set of amps and know that something in a lexus had the same name on it

Considering how people feel about Boseissuck...

yeah a troll with 7 times as many posts as you.

i got your back tweak!

my dad's got some B&W's that are pretty nice but if i was using them i wouldn't be able to listen without a sub too. my brother's got some Klipsh La Scalas (125 pounds each) that sound freaking amazing. i like extra bass kick so i'd want a sub even with those, or some extra eq (he runs them flat). 15" drivers in each one...
as for me, i've got a Bose AM-3 setup. but in my defense, i bought it because it didn't sound anything like Bose. I hate every other speaker they make. they were great for the dorm room.

Wow, marantz is high end? I have an old 70's marantz receiver at home that my dad bought back in the day. I never loved it as the FM reception wasn't great and it blew the 15's attached to it to pieces.

I might have to dig that thing out of the closet and see how it does on some current speakers.

Did Phillips buy Marantz?

Wow, I'm surprised so many people said B&W. My B&Ws sound pretty good but not as good as the Celestions I used to have.

The old Marantz stuff was real good. The new Marantz stuff is crap.

If any of you guys just want speakers that you can actually afford instead of speakers that you can barely afford to look at, check out Athena.

I bought a small pair of Athena FS-31's and they are absolutely wonderful. They look beautiful and they sound great. I am going to be buying another 3 Athena speakers some time and an Athena subwoofer (though I don't really need one) some time during my life.

BTW, these speakers have a 7-year warranty. For the price difference between these and high-end speakers, you could afford to replace them every 7 years.

Also, anyone ever notice that things that have more refined manufacturing processes have fewer flaws? Think you're going to have fewer flaws when there's only a few made per day or thousands made per day? I don't think any 'hand-made' speakers can rival mass-produced speakers in terms of sound quality.

BTW, the Theta Casablanca II has more features than.. uh.. the Lexicon MC-12, was it? I'm too lazy to check their website.

The last time I gave a damn about exotic audio, Phase Linear was the one to own. That's been about 25 years, so things may have changed since then.
