<< Depending on how well I knew the person it could mean love, or it could mean something similar that could develop into love...

But not just sexual attraction, for sure.

Bingo. At least, that's how it is for me.

Yeah. To me, its at least more than "my pants get tight every time you are nearby"...

<< It could mean either. It depends on the individual. As they say, actions speak louder than words. >>

Right. If he starts humping your leg, you can assume that he means "you give me a stiffy".
>>

One of my best friends used to do this for fun... he was a strange one.

That prettymuch sums it up, could also mean the person is ready to try goin out on a date or two and see how it goes from there (does he get laid that night or not)

j/k on that last part

This is like trying to translate japaneese out of context. What was the context of this phrase?

I "have feelings" for my wife, but I also "have feelings" for baked potatoes as well.. Sounds like a typical guy cop out, like when you tell him "I love you" and he says "me to".

But maybe he has the same kind of feelings for you as I have for baked pot... I mean, my wife!

"The person who told me he had 'feelings' for me also told me he doesn't think he has ever loved anyone. Except his mother, lol..."

Uhmmmmm . . . weird. I have not heard guys ever say that to me or someone around me. It's always been "I love you", "I like you, like you", "I want to be with you" or something else.

However, as a woman, I often say "I have feelings for him". I never thought it was something guys say too? I think it's too feminine for a guy to say. So maybe it means the guy is really queer or a sissy really? Don't jump on me now. I am only giving an opinion and specualtion.

I wouldn't want a guy who uses that phrase. To me, it either means he's a sissy; or he just isn't really interested in me (i.e., just operates by his sexual tension); or he's messing with my mind. I hope that helps.

I don't really get the point.
I mean, a guy isn't that different from a gal that they speak differently or something like that
It's just like with a girl who says it.
It means whatever you think/hope it means.
We here can't really know that, only you can know that since you know how serious that guy is.
If you're not sure, why not just talk about it with him?

That's because it is moot.

What I hoped to gain from this thread is an idea of what it has meant to other people, in the context of their own lives.

And, true to form, ATers come through with some very interesting and insightful answers!

<< I think sometime's it means.

I want to say I love you, but if you don't love ME then you'll freak out and run off. So I'll just say "I have feelings for you." that way we are both safe!
>>

I've never actually gotten enough nerve to say that to any girl but if I did it would probably mean the above.

generally means something more then friendship, a deeper feeling that can relate to love but the person isn't certain, or may not want to admit it (to you or themselves).

When a guy says he has feeling for you, he generally means he'd like to see you on a regular basis for romantic meetings. Saying this specific phrase usually means he has feels of more than just lust. Each guy is a bit different with that meaning, but I tell someone I have feelings for them, it means I *could* fall in love with them, but only by getting to know them better, I'll know if I can fall in love with them or not.

Hope this helps.

Well your question seems to assume a universal "dictionary" for colloqial expressions. However, there is no such thing. The only way to find out what this particular person meant is to ask him. It could mean anything. Maybe he just wants a romp with no strings, or maybe he wants more, but is afraid to follow through, or maybe he is actually obsessed with you, complete in love, but is only able to express his feelings through approximation.

What does a guy mean when he says he has 'feelings' for you? Is that the same as 'love'? Or does it just mean, 'When I see you I get a stiffy'?

>>

HE probably doesn't know, either. We generally figure out the difference by the time we're 40 or so, tho.
