Do you know how to configure the PS app so that it uses different ports than the defaults?

I found this:

"PokerStars software uses two port numbers by default: 26002 and 443. They are interchangeable, but PokerStars will select one for you automatically. You may change the port number in the configuration files if you wish. PokerStars does not require you to configure your cable or DSL router in any special manner to permit you to connect. Most such routers will work out of the box without changing the settings. If you have changed the settings for firewall purposes, you should ensure that these two ports are "passed through" unaffected and unblocked. Please see your router manual for instructions on this if needed. "

But I can't find any place in the app or through files in the directory to change 26002 and 443 to another port.

Not at my current location and I don't have access to the firewall to open the ports.

So basically you're trying to install this poker game app at work but can't reconfigure different ports to get it to work?

You do know that, if your IT staff has any technical ability whatsoever, that sort of stuff is still traceable, even if you manage to change the port? Even installing that stuff on your work computer (something else that can be tracked remotely) is grounds for dismissal where I work.

Good luck with that. Let us know how it turns out. :thumbsup:

You need to add some information to the user.ini file.

I added this to force it to connect on 443 through a proxy of my choosing. You can build on this and try and see if it will connect on a different port.

You dont need the httpproxy stuff nor the entire ConnectR section if you dont connect through a proxy. Just the connect heading and the userport line.

Disclaimer: Gambling at work is probably forbidden...

[Connect]
userport=443
httpproxy=proxy.domain.com:1234
httpsproxy=proxy.domain.com:1234

[ConnectR]
httpproxy=proxy.domain.com:1234

host2=66.212.235.34

No offense, but I don't work where you work - and it sounds like you need a new job. Also, this is not only due to a work firewall, but other connections that I utilize in some remote locations. Most of the time I can connect just fine, but in others I have to set things up differently.

Not at all... it's MY network. Regardless, I don't know of ANY companies that allow workers to install and use gambling software on their computers and network.

So... if it's not a work firewall issue, it's probably not a port issue. But if it is, the post above should help you with that.

Could always say it was installed by mistake as some sort of spyware. But if there is traffic flowing on those ports then you are toast

I think the info about the .ini files above is accurate. You can also email 'support@pokerstars.com'. They reply quickly and are usually quite competent.

And as stated above, trying to bypass network security will likely get you in trouble/fired.

Just install UltraVNC server on your home PC.
Download UltraVNC viewer to your PC then connect to your home PC and run PokerStars off your home PC. I play during lunch. It's a tad laggy but who cares, its a poker game not doom3 or whatever.

Most work firewalls block VNC port 5900 though. I guess you could reconfigure it to a different port.

I used to remote desktop home to play poker. I got caught by my coworker once. Heh. My alt+tab skills weren't leet enough for him =(.

Yes, at least remote home or VNC home. I don't think it's possible to track what you were doing at that point...

To my knowledge, no, it's not possible. It is possible to track that you're using UltraVNC (and it may be blocked). But unless they were snooping your desktop while you were doing it, they wouldn't know you were playing poker.

It's actually for while I'm not at work with a work laptop. For example: sitting in a hotel room at night due to work travel.

final comment in regards to the VNC thing, you don't have to use default port 5900, just change it to something you want. Besides VNC, you can use RDP and change the default port on that too so instead of 3389 or whatever it is make it something more common.. there's many ways to get around this stuff. Have fun.
